Nama Wellness Community Centre Central, Uganda

Nama Wellness Community Centre (NAWEC) is a Ugandan non-governmental organization founded in 2014, dedicated to providing equitable and quality healthcare services to rural communities in Mukono District and beyond, with a focus on maternal and child health, community health worker (CHW) empowerment, and mental health interventions.

Welcome to Nama Wellness Community Centre

NAWEC uses a community-led health system concept to fill important healthcare shortages in rural Uganda. By incorporating qualified Community Health Workers (CHWs) into the national healthcare system, it seeks to eliminate avoidable deaths among women and children.

Key Projects

Important projects consist of:

  • Health Service Delivery: Providing rural locations with digital health solutions, facility-based treatment, and clinical outreach.
  • Mental Health Programs: Group Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT-G) is being used to treat anxiety and depression, especially in women and teenagers.
  • Research and Advocacy: Supply chain strengthening, CHW professionalization, and data generation to guide policy.
  • CHW Empowerment: Educating, empowering, and rewarding more than 100 CHWs to assist facility deliveries, make home visits, and offer family planning services.

Impact

With accomplishments including 369,284 household visits, comprehensive under-five treatments, and enhanced maternal health outcomes, NAWEC has had a substantial influence on communities since its founding.
