Rootical is a new studio that helps purpose-driven entrepreneurs in Uganda develop and run their own regenerative agri-food businesses. We use a repeatable approach to bring together talent, money, and ideas to start businesses that make the food system better Shona, a Ugandan business consultancy firm with more than ten years of expertise helping small and medium-sized businesses thrive, and Fresh Ventures Studio, a Dutch organization that helps build regenerative food system enterprises in Europe, are working together in a dynamic way We are establishing a portfolio of commercially successful, purpose-driven businesses that will help speed up the shift to a fair and regenerative food system

The Job

We're looking for an Accountant & Business Analyst who pays attention to details and is willing to take the initiative They should also be interested in becoming a full Business Analyst This person will be the financial backbone for our growing portfolio of companies, making sure they are financially healthy and giving them the data-driven insights they need to succeed You will be in charge of keeping accurate records, following tax laws, and managing your money well with QuickBooks At the same time, you will be responsible for creating strong business analysis to help with strategic decision-making

Main Duties

1. Accounting and financial compliance (50%)

• Check and fix any mistakes in existing QuickBooks entries for all portfolio businesses to make sure they are right
• Create and keep up a consistent chart of accounts for the whole studio
• Check the books and make sure that all transactions are recorded appropriately and balanced every month
• Be in charge of following all rules and regulations, such as sending correct invoices, filing tax reports, and talking to URA, NSSF, and other government agencies
• Make sure that PAYE, NSSF, and other legal duties are filed on time

2. Managing the inventory (20%)

• Set up and keep up effective systems for managing inventory for our agri-food enterprises
• Help founders keep an eye on stock levels and give them analytical reports to help them make the most of their inventory and cut down on waste

3. Reporting, analyzing, and predicting finances (20%)

• Make monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheets, Cash Flow Statements) for the companies in the portfolio
• Make budgets, financial predictions, and scenario models to help you make important business decisions
• Look at financial data to find patterns, possible risks, and new ways to build your business
• Help founders with making financial models and planning their strategies

4. Improving Processes (10%)

• Make accounting processes easier and write down the finest financial practices for the whole studio
• Give important financial information to help with important investment and purchasing decisions
• Teach and help entrepreneurs and team members learn how to use QuickBooks and the basics of managing money

• You need to be good at QuickBooks
• You need to be very good at Excel/Sheets and other accounting applications
• Strong analytical skills and experience in financial forecasting, reporting, and modeling
• Good understanding of Ugandan tax rules and how to follow them
• Great at paying attention to small things and fixing problems
• Able to work alone and with teams and entrepreneurs who don't work in finance

Length and Pay

• This is a 3-month consulting job that will lead to a full-time job for the right person based on their performance

• Our professional service rates are competitive and in line with what a full-time wage would be at Rootical-SHONA
