About the Company

CURE Children's Hospital of Uganda opened in Mbale in 2001. Its goal is to heal sick children with treatable neurological diseases and spread the word about the kingdom of God.

Dr. Benjamin Warf, the hospital's founding medical director, was the first to use minimally invasive, shuntless treatment for hydrocephalus, which is now used all over the world.

CURE Uganda promotes a caring and faith-based work environment based on fundamental values that stress showing God's love through medical and spiritual care.

CURE Uganda has grown since it first opened to include three operating rooms, an 18-bed Intensive Care Unit, and 50 ward beds.

The hospital has worked with the West Virginia University School of Medicine to create a full epilepsy program that finds, assesses, and treats people with epilepsy in Uganda and Eastern Africa.

The hospital does about 1,900 surgeries a year on kids with diseases like hydrocephalus, spina bifida, and brain tumors.

CURE Uganda is dedicated to corporate social responsibility and runs community events like the yearly Brain Surgery Run to raise money for children's surgery.

Role Overview

Job Title: Anesthetic Assistant (New NGO Jobs)

Organization: CURE Children's Hospital of Uganda

Location: Mbale, Uganda

Summary of the Job: To help provide safe, effective, and caring anesthetic services by getting the equipment ready, keeping track of supplies, helping during procedures, and making sure that health and safety regulations are met.

Key Responsibilities

Setting up and helping with anesthesia
  • Get the anesthesia equipment ready and clean for each case (age, weight, procedure).
  • Help the anesthesia provider during the induction and emergence phases.
  • Follow the anesthetic provider's or the Operating Room In-Charge's instructions to help with daily OR routines.
  • Help move patients after the surgery if they require it.
Managing and keeping records of stock
  • Put the anesthetic cart back in stock and store it every day.
  • Keep an eye on how much anesthesia supplies are used and order more right away.
  • Keep things in order by labeling the shelves clearly.
  • Put summaries of your stock into anesthetic data forms and Operating Room stock cards.
Handling and reordering gas cylinders
  • Handle oxygen, medical air, nitrous oxide, and nitrogen cylinders with care.
  • Get medicinal gases back in stock on time.
  • Tell the anesthesia supervisor right once if there are any problems with the gas supply or equipment.
Safety and Maintenance of Equipment
  • Check anesthesia machines and their parts for damage.
  • Every day, clean and disinfect machinery and their parts.
  • Report broken equipment right away.
  • Keep an eye on and write down the temperature and humidity at the anesthesia drug store.
  • Tell your boss about any problems with controlling the environment.
Health, Safety, and Infection Control
  • Follow the hospital's health and safety rules, which include safely using tools and getting rid of sharp objects.
  • Wear PPE properly and follow the right uniform rules.
  • Quickly find and report any hazards or events.
  • Take part in programs at work that promote safety and health.
Professionalism and Keeping Secrets
  • Keep patient information private and only share it with people who have permission to do so.
  • Talk to people in other fields in a way that helps patient care.
  • Show respect for all patients, no matter what their background or health is.
Involvement in spiritual ministry
  • Take part in prayer time before surgery.
  • Go to chapel and Bible studies for your department as planned.
  • Be like Christ when you deal with patients, their families, and your coworkers.
  • Build good relationships and work together.
Being there and taking part
  • Show up for work on time and as planned.
  • Go to frequent departmental and all-staff meetings.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Take the initiative to learn new skills and ideas.
  • Take part in CPD activities that are related to anesthetic support and care before and after surgery.
  • Go to any scheduled training sessions, workshops, or seminars that are held inside or outside of the company.
  • Stay up to date on anesthesia tools, safety rules, and new best practices.
  • Write down what you do for CPD and share what you learn with the rest of the team to help everyone get better.

Education, Skills, and Qualifications

Required:

  • Completed a Certificate in Medical Theatre Techniques or an equivalent mix of education and work experience that gives you the same skills and expertise.
  • You must be a member of the Allied Health Professionals Council.
  • Ability to properly handle or process private documents or materials
  • Ability to do more than one thing at once, set priorities, and work alone
  • Being able to use a computer is a plus.
  • At least one year of experience as an anesthesia technician or proof of the capacity and motivation to learn and accept new concepts.

  • Attention to detail, the ability to stand for lengthy amounts of time, and the ability to handle stress
  • Skills for getting equipment ready and cleaning it.
  • Great at writing reports and talking to people
  • Keeps lines of communication open with managers at all levels.
  • Good in working with others and getting along with them.
  • Good ability for speaking and writing, as well as giving presentations
  • High-level planning and organizing skills, such as being able to manage your time well and prioritize your activities.
  • Good talents for judging and assessing

Spiritual Commitment: Active participation in prayer, chapel, and demonstrating Christ-like behavior is integral to this role.
