About CURE Children's Hospital of Uganda
CURE Uganda, founded in 2001 in Mbale, is a faith-based PNFP hospital specializing in pediatric neurosurgery and spiritual care. A global leader in shuntless hydrocephalus treatment (pioneered by Dr. Benjamin Warf), it operates 3 ORs, an 18-bed ICU, and 50 ward beds. The hospital treats hydrocephalus, spina bifida, brain tumors, and epilepsy, performing 1,900 surgeries annually. Position Overview
The Primary Care Nurse delivers bedside care in the ward, ICU, and OR, ensuring patient safety, accurate documentation, and spiritual support. You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care while adhering to CURE standards and protocols.
Key Responsibilities
ICU/Ward Care
- Monitor patient condition and respond urgently to changes
 - Ensure proper use and handover of equipment
 - Implement discharge/referral plans
 - Update multidisciplinary team on patient needs
 - Adhere to unit policies and emergency protocols
 - Monitor indwelling devices using checklists
 - Interpret and act on vital signs
 
Nursing Assessment and Care Planning
- Collect and analyze patient data
 - Develop individualized care plans (NANDA)
 - Implement and evaluate interventions
 
Patient Education and Pre/Post-Op Care
- Deliver daily health education to patients/caregivers
 - Orient new admissions to ward operations
 - Prepare patients 30 mins before surgery (NPO, vitals, checklist)
 - Receive PACU handover and implement post-op orders
 - Manage fluid balance charts
 
Documentation and Handover
- Implement doctor orders within 30 mins
 - Ensure clear, timely, EMR-compliant documentation
 - Conduct comprehensive shift handover
 - Perform 24-hour chart audits
 
Emergency and Shift Leadership
- Manage resuscitation trolley (daily checks, expiry tracking)
 - Assist shift supervisor with bed allocation, discharges, and ward rounds
 - Act as point of contact in supervisor’s absence
 
Spiritual and Professional Development
- Participate in chapel, bible studies, and spiritual ministry
 - Complete 3+ professional development sessions annually
 - Adhere to Occupational Health & Safety protocols
 
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: Diploma in Nursing. Current Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council certificate
 - Experience: 1+ year in nursing (hospital setting). EMR and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace proficiency
 - Skills:
