Summary of the Job

We need a Collections Supervisor to help us improve our collections process, increase recoveries, and help us reach our portfolio quality goals.  The purpose of the Collections Supervisor's job is to oversee collections at the branch and field levels, keep an eye on arrears performance, train collections staff, and put into action successful recovery techniques.

 To make sure that payments are made on time, that the portfolio stays high quality, and that credit losses are kept to a minimum, the job involves strong field leadership, analytical discipline, and working with people from different departments

Duties, Roles, and Responsibilities in Detail

  • Oversee and train Collections Officers to get targeted recoveries on:
  • Accounts that aren't working (NPAs)
  • Getting back money from accounts that have been written off
  • Meet acceptable quality goals for the portfolio
  • Keep an eye on performance and make sure that collection policies are followed to the letter
  • Make sure that all recovery actions follow the delinquency escalation policy
  • Foreclose on securities as necessary, following corporate rules and the law
  • Make sure that clients follow through on their repayment schedules
  • Work closely with Product Heads, Regional Managers, and Branch Managers to make sure that recovery plans fit with how well the products are doing and how the regional portfolio is changing
  • Talk to the legal, compliance, and credit administration departments about situations that have been escalated or are too complicated
  • Regularly analyze the portfolio and suggest solutions for management to fix any problems
  • Encourage a culture of discipline, responsibility, and results in the collections department

Qualifications, Education, and Skills

CategoryDescription
EducationA bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related discipline
ExperienceAt least three years of experience in collections or credit management, with at least one year in a supervisory role (experience in microfinance or SACCO will be a plus)

Additional Qualifications

  • A lot of experience in collections and recoveries in microfinance and retail banking
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve rigorous Portfolio at risk criteria and recovery targets, including written-off accounts
