Job Summary

Rainbow International School Uganda seeks an enthusiastic and inspirational SEND Coordinator to maintain the highest standards of provision for SEND students. 

The successful candidate will lead the whole school SEND team, supporting students' academic, personal, and social development from Year 1 to Year 13, including an Early Years satellite setting.

Duties, Roles, and Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the whole school SEND team across primary and secondary sections
  • Support students with academic, personal, and social development
  • Work closely with parents to ensure involvement and communication about child's progress
  • Coordinate education plans for students with SEN across Primary and Secondary
  • Advise fellow teachers on SEND best practices and strategies
  • Collaborate with class and subject teachers to reinforce learning
  • Manage therapists and counsellors
  • Use SEN assessment tools and write related student reports
  • Attend and lead staff meetings, open days, and school events
  • Ensure transfer of learning from one-to-one lessons to classroom settings

Qualifications, Education, and Competencies

  • B.Ed./PGCE/PGDE/QTS in relevant subject area
  • Minimum three years teaching experience post-qualification
  • Experience in UK or British curriculum school overseas
  • Previous experience as whole school SEN Coordinator or ready for career step
  • Wide experience working with pupils with range of special educational needs
  • Excellent understanding of SEND Code of Practice
  • SENDCO qualifications (NASENCO, ASN/SEN Learning Support QTS) added advantage
  • Ability to use Google Apps and classroom technology
  • Resilience and ability to work well under pressure
  • Commitment to safeguarding children and school policies
