Job Summary:

The Volunteer Enrolled Nurse will give patients in Hoima full nursing care, including preventive, curative, and public health education. In this work, you will need to provide good treatment to patients according to clinical guidelines and medical protocols while keeping the highest levels of hygiene and professional ethics in places where resources are limited.

Our main areas of focus include emergency response, maternity and child health, and disease prevention in the world's most vulnerable areas.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide full nursing care, including observing and diagnosing patients and treating them under clinical supervision.
  • Keep in touch with patients directly, handle concerns, and take steps to fix problems.
  • Make sure that patients are welcomed and set up correctly, and help those who can't do it themselves.
  • Do triage in the emergency and outpatient departments to find the most important patients
  • Give first assistance and send serious cases to medical officers
  • Make sure the patient is comfortable and that the recovery environment is safe and healthy.
  • Help with ward rounds and fill out the paperwork for admissions and discharges.
  • Give out drugs according to prescriptions and make sure patients understand how to take them
  • Take part in primary healthcare initiatives like nutrition and health education programs
  • Offer counseling and testing for HIV, family planning, and PMTCT
  • Keep an eye on how much medicine and drugs are being used and let the restocking team know when they need more.
  • Take care of biomedical equipment by using it correctly and doing basic maintenance.
  • Make sure that hygiene, sterilization, and infection prevention rules are followed.
  • Get accurate patient information and send reports on time.
  • Teach patients and their families about health when appropriate
  • Follow the Medical Teams International Code of Conduct and professional ethics

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Certificate in Comprehensive Nursing from an authorized school
  • Valid registration with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council
  • A current practice license
  • At least one year of nursing experience
  • Experience with international NGOs (a plus)
  • Understanding of professional nursing rules and methods
  • Knowing how to get rid of medical waste
  • Being able to give advice and counseling
  • Being able to follow nursing care procedures
  • Great communication and people skills
  • Strong command of written and spoken English
  • High ethical standards and integrity
  • Good time management and self-control
  • Ability to keep precise, accurate records
  • Being aware of and respecting other cultures
  • Being able to handle stress and be flexible
  • Being dedicated to putting the patient first
