The Biofuel Procurement Officer’s role at SAASA B2E is to source, negotiate, and ensure a steady supply of biofuels (such as briquettes, pellets, husks, biogas, bagasse, or agricultural leftovers) to power industrial boilers in Uganda, while prioritizing cost, quality, and environmental sustainability.
Duties, Roles, and Responsibilities
Identify and evaluate vendors of biomass and biofuels suitable for boilers, such as wood briquettes, bagasse, husks, biogas, or agricultural waste.
Negotiate long-term deals to ensure a consistent fuel supply.
Develop procurement strategies that balance cost, quality, and environmental impact.
Monitor biomass market trends and recommend cost-saving measures.
Verify that purchased biofuels meet boiler requirements, such as moisture content and calorific value.
Collaborate with suppliers to ensure proper drying, storage, and handling of biofuels.
Conduct regular fuel testing to maintain performance and minimize boiler downtime.
Coordinate the collection, transportation, and timely delivery of biofuels to boiler sites.
Optimize logistics to reduce waste and costs.
Maintain adequate stock levels to prevent shortages and ensure smooth boiler operations.
Ensure sourcing complies with Uganda’s energy and environmental regulations.
Promote renewable and sustainable feedstocks over non-renewable charcoal and firewood.
Support carbon credit programs and sustainability initiatives in biomass energy.
Build relationships with farmer groups, sugar mills, biomass producers, and agro-processors.
Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., boiler operators, finance, and sustainability management) to align procurement with plant needs.
Education and Qualifications
8 to 15 years of experience in fuel procurement, biomass energy, or industrial energy.
Experience with boilers, renewable energy projects, or agro-processing sectors is a plus.
Strong understanding of biomass/biofuel feedstocks and their performance in industrial boilers.
Knowledge of supply chain management, procurement, and contract negotiation. Understanding of boiler operations and energy efficiency.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and supplier relationship management skills.
