Job Summary

The Business Development Manager will build a successful Life Insurance portfolio for Retail and Corporate Business in Uganda, leveraging distribution channels to maximize revenue and market share. The role involves managing relationships with banks, brokers, financial advisors, unit managers, ADCs, partner outlets, and regional service managers.

Roles, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a business development plan to increase market awareness and share
  • Focus on customer acquisition and brand awareness to establish a strong presence
  • Plan and implement sales strategies and action plans for growth
  • Lead product portfolio strategy, ensuring a profitable and balanced mix of life insurance products
  • Use sales incentives to acquire new customers and retain existing ones
  • Conduct market research to understand customer needs, industry trends, and regulatory changes
  • Monitor product development, sales, and marketing costs for profitability and sustainability
  • Collaborate with actuarial, underwriting, and operations teams to develop customer-centric products
  • Ensure seamless, competitive customer experiences across all life insurance products
  • Update product information and training materials to align with the company’s value proposition
  • Identify innovative product ideas to expand and differentiate the portfolio
  • Monitor regulatory changes and ensure compliance with industry standards
  • Build and maintain relationships with brokers and banks for profitable partnerships
  • Hire, train, and retain a high-performing team of Financial Advisors
  • Lead, coach, and manage sales and distribution teams to meet targets
  • Collaborate with underwriting and actuarial departments for optimal pricing, product mix, and margins
  • Represent the company professionally with clients, partners, and regulators
  • Manage client portfolios to retain policyholders and generate revenue
  • Operate within the approved Delegated Authority Matrix
  • Perform other tasks as required

Qualifications, Education, and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field; Master’s degree is an advantage
  • Professional insurance qualification (ACII, CII, DIU) or equivalent, or actively pursuing one
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial capacity, preferably in financial services
  • Deep knowledge of the insurance industry
  • Key Skills:
    • Results-driven with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets
    • Dynamic, flexible, energetic, and highly motivated
    • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills
    • Experience with digital marketing is an advantage
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and persuasion skills across all levels
