Job Summary
The Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at Jumia Uganda will lead the identification of new business opportunities and manage marketing initiatives, providing strategic guidance to senior management based on market trends and conditions. This entrepreneurial leadership role, part of the Uganda E-commerce Executive Committee, focuses on driving profitable and sustainable business growth through creative strategy and strong organizational skills.
Roles, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Develop the department’s commercial strategy, including sales targets, priority categories/sectors, key suppliers, and onboarding goals
- Negotiate partnerships, contracts, and service level agreements with key vendors and suppliers
- Execute major commercial events seamlessly
- Oversee a large team, including Vendor Success, Heads of Category, Commercial Planning, and Category Management, with shared reporting responsibilities
- Recruit high-caliber talent to strengthen the team
- Ensure regular, high-quality team reporting on actions and results
Qualifications, Education, and Competencies
- Over 4 years of experience in fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), tier-1 retail groups, or leading banking/consultancy firms
- Over 8 years of expertise in sales, supply chain management, and business, with a deep understanding of e-commerce best practices, particularly in developing countries
- Proficiency in relationship management tools
- Strong leadership and people skills to inspire and align teams with strategic decisions
- Ability to manage multiple teams effectively
- Hands-on approach with enthusiasm for tackling challenges independently
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in numerical analysis
- Excellent communication skills in English
