Job Summary

An Environmental Advisor needs to be able to move about and work in the field, such as Lot 1, 2, or 3 The Environmental Supervisor will be in charge of the Environmental Advisor.

 He or she will help the Lead make sure that the pipeline, AGIs, EITS, and other facilities are built according to the authorized ESIA, ESAP, BAP, and ESMPs, as well as the necessary national and international laws and standards and EACOP policies and procedures.

 As environmental monitoring of big construction projects like oil and gas pipelines is still a new field in Uganda and Tanzania, the Environmental Supervisor will likely be out in the field helping, training, and building the skills of the site-based environmental teams

Duties, Roles, and Responsibilities

  • Make sure that contractors follow the company's rules and good international practice by coordinating their work
  • Help find and evaluate environmental projects and initiatives
  • Oversee programs that keep an eye on the environment in relation to cultural heritage, marine ecology, water, waste, noise, and air
  • Doing inspections, audits, and monitoring of the environment Reporting, making sense of results, and taking action on them
  • Giving construction teams advice on how to manage the environment in order to have great results for the environment
  • Create, put into action, and keep up the CEMP and its sub-plans
  • Permits and approvals Building solid ties with councils, regulators, and other people in the community
  • Help the Supervisor get to project get/No-go HSE/R3 reviews for project mobilization
  • Help with assessing and commenting on Contractor Control Plans (CCP), Contractor Implementation Plan and Procedures (CIPP), and method statements to make sure that the needs of ESIA, BAP, ESAP, and other related papers are taken into account and met
  • To give site environment teams on-the-job training and coaching, working with training providers directly or indirectly to make sure that training is given and that performance is monitored
  • Help construction crews by being there for them on site during big river crossings or other delicate construction work
  • Help the field Environment teams figure out what they need to do to stop erosion
  • Help the Supervisor set up a regular site auditing program This includes making the audit protocol and schedule, doing the audit, preparing the audit reports, and making sure that the activities that come out of the audits are completed
  • Help the Supervisor take part in the company's environmental compliance audit and self-assessment program
  • Help field teams set up an Environment training program for staff that work on location
  • Help the Supervisor create and carry out the major Environmental Coordination Plan and Environmental Inspection Matrix
  • Help the Supervisor keep databases and record storage up to date for Environmental systems reports and compliance audits
  • Make sure that all ESIA and project environmental reporting follow the rules set by the IFC and the Equator Principles IV
  • Checking if the CONTRACTOR has all the necessary permissions and is following all the rules and regulations
  • Take part in HSE environmental inspections, reviews, and assessments
  • Help look into concerns about the outside environment, check the facts, and write reports based on what you uncover
  • Take part in investigations of environmental incidents or reviews of incidents

Qualifications, Education, and Skills

RequirementDetails
EducationA Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science and management, environmental engineering, or a related discipline
ExperienceAt least five years of experience supervising the environment in the construction business, ideally in pipeline work

Skills:
Good experience and knowledge of worldwide ESIAs and IFC criteria for social and environmental performance
Understanding how to control the environment during building
Enforcement of compliance
Ability to communicate all of the project's environmental needs to contractors
Able to work in the field and do inspections
Writing short reports every day
Ability to use industry tools as Assure, OMIE, Aconex, PowerBI, P6, SharePoint, Adobe, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio), and others
Excellent English communication skills (both spoken and written), including the ability to explain environmental issues and solutions to teams made up of people with different technical and educational backgrounds
Ability to work in the field and inspect things in tough terrain
Able to work alone, be self-motivated, and be flexible enough to handle changes or shifts in priorities rapidly
Good communication and contact with both construction crews in the field and management teams
Knowing the project's HSE strategy and promises on how to manage the environment on site
Show that you can understand and follow Environmental programs, policies, and rules
Knowledge of rules and regulations that must be followed, such as safety rules, environmental rules, and rules for getting a permit in your area
Root cause analysis (RCA), making decisions based on data, analyzing environmental risks, and writing analytical reports are all things you should know
Experience managing staff (teaching, coaching, and motivating tactics)
Strong communication, networking, collaboration, and teamwork skills, especially when dealing with people from other fields and cultures
