Job Summary

The Agroecology and Resilience Design Specialist will lead the technical design, implementation, and quality assurance of regenerative and Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) interventions under DCA’s Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI). The role focuses on integrating CSA, Resilience Design (RD), and Agroecology principles to enhance community resilience, restore degraded landscapes, and promote sustainable food systems. The specialist will work closely with implementing partners, local governments, community-based facilitators, and smallholder farmers in West Nile districts (Koboko, Madi-Okollo, Moyo, Obongi, Terego, and Yumbe) to build climate-resilient livelihoods.

Roles, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance on CSA, agroecology, and RD strategies tailored to local agroecological zones
  • Lead the adaptation and rollout of DCA’s Regenerative Climate Smart Agriculture (RCSA) Manual, aligning with national policies and project goals
  • Plan and deliver training, mentoring, and coaching for partners, district production staff, community extension workers, and lead farmers on regenerative practices (e.g., soil and water conservation, agroforestry, integrated pest management, farm system design)
  • Establish and manage field demonstration plots, farmer field schools, and learning sites to promote peer-to-peer learning
  • Collaborate with partners, businesses, and local governments to integrate regenerative CSA and RD into Community Adaptation Action Plans (CAAPs)
  • Ensure gender-sensitive and youth-inclusive approaches in all regenerative CSA programs
  • Document success stories, lessons learned, and best practices for CSA, RD, and Agroecology interventions
  • Develop and review training materials, technical guidelines, and IEC tools for regenerative agriculture and resilience-building
  • Participate in monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities to collect data for adaptive management
  • Represent DCA in national, settlement/zonal, and district-level forums on food systems, rural development, agroecology, and climate resilience
  • Lead work planning and produce high-quality technical and status reports on CSA, RD, and Agroecology interventions
  • Ensure compliance with DCA’s program quality standards, code of conduct, and safeguarding principles

Qualifications, Education, and Skills

  • Master’s degree in Agroecology, Climate Change Adaptation, Sustainable Agriculture, or Natural Resources Management with at least 5 years of experience in CSA, Agroecology, or Resilience Design initiatives in an NGO or development organization, OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 8 years of practical experience in agroecology, sustainable agriculture, or resilience design, preferably in humanitarian and development settings
  • Extensive technical expertise in agroecology, regenerative CSA, resilience design, soil and water conservation, farm planning, and ecosystem restoration
  • Proven experience in training farmers and using participatory extension methods
  • Experience working with refugee and host communities or dryland farming systems is an advantage
  • Strong understanding of gender equality, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability in agricultural programs
  • Excellent coordination, analytical, facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with GIS or data visualization tools
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural backgrounds and multidisciplinary teams
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment
