About the Organization

Lunar Poultry Farm is a business that raises broiler chickens in Mawokota, Mpigi District, Uganda. It can currently raise between 25,000 and 50,000 broiler chicks per flock cycle. 

We are dedicated to producing high-quality poultry and caring for animals, and we are looking for a motivated, experienced, and hands-on Farm Manager to run and improve the farm.

Overview of the Position

The Poultry Farm Manager will be in charge of running the farm on a daily basis, making sure that the flock is healthy, productive, and running smoothly. You need to have a mix of technical poultry knowledge, leadership skills, and business sense for this job.

Roles, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Brooding management: Make sure the chicks are in the right spot, get enough heat, and get the care they need in their first few days of life
  • Flock health and performance: Keep an eye on the birds’ health, look for signs of illness, and plan veterinary care
  • Supervision of production: Keep an eye on feed intake, weight gain, death rates, and feed conversion rates
  • Farm operations and maintenance: Make sure that the farm’s buildings, equipment, and infrastructure all work well
  • Enforcing biosecurity: Put in place and keep an eye on rigorous biosecurity rules
  • Staff leadership: Make sure that agricultural personnel are well-trained, supervised, and motivated to do their best work
  • Reporting data: Create and send reports on important production parameters like death rates, feed use, costs, and tracking inputs and outputs

Qualifications, Education, and Experience

  • Minimum education: a diploma in animal science, poultry management, agriculture, or a related field
  • At least five years of real-world experience in running a commercial poultry farm
  • At least two years of experience in a similar situation as a supervisor or manager
  • Technical Knowledge: A good understanding of how poultry works, how to feed it, how to keep it safe from disease, and how to treat it when it gets sick

  • Problem-Solving: Good at making decisions and fixing problems
  • Technical Savvy: Knowing how to use farm management tools, analyze data, and work with current poultry systems
  • Business Awareness: Knowing how to budget, keep costs down, and run a business efficiently
  • Communication Skills: Being able to talk and write clearly with staff, suppliers, and management
  • Physical fitness: Being able to work long hours in any weather
  • Passion for Poultry: A real concern for the well-being of poultry and a promise to uphold high standards
