Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Urban Agronomist to join our team as a Field Agronomy and Input Officer Your primary role will be to maintain and optimize the health of our clients' urban greens systems and our demonstration farms This field-based position requires extensive travel within and around Kampala using public transportation You will represent our input delivery service, ensuring clients' systems are healthy, productive, and sustainable

Responsibilities, Duties, and Roles

Go to the customer's site:

  • Offer pest and disease management services to client sites, with an emphasis on preventing, diagnosing, and treating pests and illnesses
  • Manage water and nutrients

Client Advisory on Site:

  • Serve as the primary on-site agronomy advisor, providing clients with rapid, practical advice on crop management, transplanting, and harvesting, with support from our central agronomy team

Help with the nursery and demo farm:

  • Enhance the efficiency of our central nursery to ensure high-quality seedlings and facilitate their delivery to client sites
  • Provide hands-on support to our demonstration farms

In-depth Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of field services, including treatments, input applications, and system data, for internal tracking, quality assurance, and continuous improvement

Qualifications, Education, and Skills

RequirementDetails
EducationA diploma or bachelor's degree in a relevant agricultural discipline , such as agronomy, horticulture, crop science, or a similar field
Experience1 to 3 years of hands-on work with pest and disease management, fertilizer management, and providing advice to farmers

Skills and Knowledge:
Strong understanding of horticulture crops, including their nutritional demands and common pests
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to assist clients and provide clear, actionable advice
Willingness and ability to travel extensively within and around Kampala using public transportation for daily service rounds
Motorcycle experience is a plus
Knowledge of hydroponics, aquaponics, and greenhouse farming is an advantage
