Job Summary:
The International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) is looking for Field Extension Workers for 8-month contracts to carry out agricultural development projects, teach farmers how to use sustainable methods, and gather field data in several districts in Uganda.

Contract Duration: Eight months, from November 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026
About the Group:
IFDC is a worldwide group that works to make farming more productive and food more secure by using environmentally friendly fertilizers and new farming technologies. IFDC works in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to improve food security by using market-based solutions and public-private partnerships. They are experts in soil health and crop nutrition.
Duty Stations:
- Bunyangabu, Kabarole, Kasese, and Kigezi in the Rwenzori Region
- Kabale, Rukiga, Rubanda, and Kisoro in the Kabale region
- Mbale, Bulambuli, Kapchorwa, Kween, and Bukwo in the Mt. Elgon region
Roles, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Use Participatory Integrated Plans (PIP) at the community and family levels.
- Teach farmers about Good Agricultural Practices and Integrated Soil Fertility Management.
- Teach people about nutrition, how to handle crops when they are harvested, and how to run Village Savings & Loan Associations.
- Support and promote market-oriented groups and VSLAs.
- Visit farms, manage demo plots, and give agronomic support.
- Get the right information and send it in for project monitoring and evaluation.
- Help with project reporting and keeping track of farmer adoption
- Give farmers regular technical help and advice.
- Take part in all training and refresher sessions for the project
Qualifications, Education, and Skills
- A diploma or certificate in agriculture, agribusiness, forestry, or a related field
- Experience training farmers, getting them involved, and working with communities
- Must live in and speak the local language of the assignment area
- A strong desire to help rural areas develop and a willingness to work in remote areas
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to work alone with little supervision
Reporting Line:
The Project Field Officer at the IFDC field offices in Mbale, Rwenzori, and Kigezi areas is in charge of this person.
Conditions and Payment:
- Monthly facilitation allowance: UGX 600,000, which is subject to a 6% withholding tax.
- Performance bonus: UGX 100,000 for going above and beyond monthly goals
- Monthly transport allowance: UGX 300,000
- Monthly airtime allowance: UGX 70,000
- Payment is based on performance and requires the submission of verifiable data
