Job Summary

The Horticulture Marketing Manager will plan, start, carry out, and report on activities to make sure that smallholder horticulture farmers have better relationships with farmer organizations and agri-SMEs, which will help them sell more and safer horticulture products.

 The Food Safety Specialist and three Associate Business Advisors will report to the Horticulture Marketing Manager. The Horticulture Marketing Manager will also work with the Organizational Development team to give specific technical help and training for post-harvest handling and marketing.

 During the inception phase, they will be in charge of the market opportunity and agri-SME mapping process, which is connected to value chain selection and studies.

 They will help organize the work for the beginning phase and make changes to the participative EFFORT process as needed to deal with problems with marketing horticultural products

Duties, Roles, and Responsibilities

  • Give Component 2 strategic leadership, which includes planning, carrying out, and reporting on marketing-focused actions in horticulture
  • Help farmer organizations (FOs) give farmers personalized help with post-harvest processing, marketing, and quality and standards control
  • In charge of turning in program deliverables on schedule and on budget
  • Oversee the rollout of the program, which includes creating and leading training sessions, establishing capacity, sharing tools, templates, papers, and information with team members and consortium partners
  • To increase the value and sales of horticultural goods made by smallholder farmers, work together with agri-SMEs, farmer groups, and purchasers
  • Help with reporting needs both within the program and for other requests as needed
  • Based on feedback from program leaders and stakeholders inside and outside the organization, design, review, and keep improving program execution
  • Guide and oversee the Food Safety Specialist and Business Advisors as they provide high-quality technical help

Qualifications, Education, and Skills

Education

You need at least five years of experience in international development or a related profession, as well as a Master's degree

 If you have a Bachelor's degree, you need seven years of experience

ExperienceExperience creating and carrying out activities that boost horticulture safety and sales using participatory methods that focus on farmers 
Preferred: experience working in Uganda or the region 
EKN experience is a plus

Required Languages: 
You must be able to speak, write, and interact with others well, and you must be fluent in both English and your native language 
Travel: 
Up to 10% of the time in Uganda 
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: 
You need to be able to analyze, write, manage people, and communicate well in order to give technical help to development projects or initiatives 
Ability to operate in a team with a lot of complexity and uncertainty, using both persuasion and diplomacy 
You must be able to talk about complicated problems in a clear, precise, and prioritized way 
Strong skills in increasing capacity, such as coaching, mentoring, and participatory facilitation techniques 
This job depends on getting money and approval from donors
