MUWRP is looking for a skilled and devoted Laboratory Technologist to work at the HIV Laboratory Hub at Luweero General Hospital.
The main job is to help with the daily operations of the laboratory hub, which includes processing samples that have been sent to them, making sure that tests are done correctly, reporting results on time, and keeping high standards.

Job Title: Laboratory Technologist - Hubs
Organization: Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP)
Location: Luweero General Hospital, Luweero, Uganda
Position Number: MUWRP/02/10/2025
Length of Contract: 1 year (may be renewed)

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Do phlebotomy and show patients how to collect samples correctly
- Keep accurate records of all samples obtained and received in both physical and electronic registers
- Follow SOPs for daily QA/QC processes and keeping laboratory equipment in good shape
- Keep records of equipment validation and calibration up to date
- Put in place and follow Laboratory Quality Management Systems
- Do lab tests like:
- General microscopy (malaria, hemoparasites, urine, stool, ZN smears)
- Automated diagnostics (blood chemistry, hematology, CD4 count)
- GeneXpert testing (TB, HPV, EID, Viral Load POC)
- HIV-related diagnostics (CrAg, TB LAM, rapid testing)
- Blood grouping and compatibility testing
- Tell clinical and supervisory teams of urgent lab results
- Record and send out lab findings on time and accurately
- Do External Quality Assurance tasks
- Keep an eye on and maintain the stock levels in the lab
- Follow stringent safety rules in the lab
- Keep all lab data private
Qualifications and Experience:
- A bachelor's degree in biomedical laboratory technology or a comparable discipline
- Must be licensed by the Allied Health Professionals Council
- At least two years of work in a busy diagnostic lab
- Prior expertise in related lab procedures (a plus)
Personal Traits and Physical Needs:
- Great written and spoken communication skills
- Able to move lab materials and help with logistics
- Must be willing to live in Luweero or Nakasongola for good
- Willingness to travel often to PEPFAR sites that MUWRP supports
