Summary of the Job:
The Volunteer Laboratory Assistant will help with important lab tests and diagnostic processes to help take care of patients at our health facilities in Hoima. This important job includes gathering samples, doing lab tests, interpreting results, and keeping rigorous quality control systems in place to make sure that patients in underprivileged communities get the right diagnosis and treatment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Do regular lab testing, such as microbiology, hematological, and biochemistry tests
- Do phlebotomy and collect samples from patients using the right method
- Go to patients' homes to collect samples from people who can't go to health facilities
- Correctly read lab results and tell doctors what they mean
- Keep patient information and test results completely private
- Prepare specimens for sending to outside labs and do follow-up work
- Set up quality control steps for all specimen samples
- Make sure that all rules on hygiene, sterilization, and infection prevention are followed
- Handle lab waste in a way that meets safety criteria that have already been set
- Use and take care of biomedical equipment according to user instructions and guidelines
- Clean and do small repairs on laboratory equipment on a regular basis
- Keep an eye on how much laboratory supplies are being used and let your boss know when they need to be restocked.
- Keep accurate records of tests done and results gotten
- Follow the Medical Teams International Code of Conduct and professional ethics
- Help with additional lab and clinical tasks as needed
Skills and Qualifications:
- An Advanced Certificate in Medical Laboratory Techniques
- A current registration with the Allied Health Professionals Council
- A current practicing license
- At least one year of lab work experience
- Experience with an international NGO (a plus)
- Knowing how to use standard lab equipment and follow standard lab procedures
- Knowing how to stop and control infections
- Being able to do standard blood tests well
- Ability to accurately read lab results
- Good English communication skills
- Knowledge of computers (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
- An analytical mind that pays attention to detail
- A commitment to keeping patient information private

- Ability to do a good job in places with few resources
- Being aware of and able to adapt to different cultures
