The Center for Relief Aid and Development (CERAD) is a women-led non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women, youth, and children in areas such as sexual and reproductive health, maternal and child health, adolescent health, and economic empowerment. CERAD fosters inclusive community development, providing training, financial inclusion, and support to vulnerable groups to promote self-reliance and social change.
Job Summary
The Livelihood Assistant at CERAD will be responsible for mobilizing women’s savings and lending groups, providing training, and supporting their financial inclusion, business skills, and livelihood enhancement.
The role involves ensuring groups are well-structured, financially literate, and linked to community social and economic opportunities, contributing to CERAD’s mission of women’s empowerment.
Roles, Duties, and Responsibilities
Group Formation and Capacity Building
- Mobilize and recruit women to form Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) or other savings groups
- Train groups on savings and lending, record-keeping, and business management
- Enhance group leaders’ skills in leadership, accountability, and conflict resolution
Business and Financial Literacy Support
- Train groups on financial management, business planning, and entrepreneurship
- Support women’s groups in starting and sustaining small enterprises or income-generating activities
- Link savings groups with financial institutions and service providers
Monitoring and Reporting
- Monitor group performance, savings, loan recovery, and income-generating activities
- Maintain accurate records and submit regular progress updates
- Collect data and success stories to demonstrate project impact
Community Engagement and Networking
- Collaborate with local leaders, community organisations, and district departments to promote women’s financial independence
- Represent the organisation at community meetings and key events
Competencies, Education, and Qualifications
- Minimum Education: Certificate in Business Administration, Microfinance, Accounting, Community Development, or a related field
- Experience: At least one year of experience working with community-based groups, savings groups (VSLA, SILC), or women empowerment projects
Skills
- Strong community organisation and facilitation skills
- Understanding of microfinance or community-based savings and loans
- Ability to maintain accurate records and reporting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Valid Class A riding permit for motorcycle use
- Fluency in Luganda, a local language

- Self-motivated and proactive, able to work independently in the field

- Strong moral character and passion for community transformation
