The African Centre for Media Excellence was founded in 2009 and became a business limited by guarantee and not having a share capital (a non-profit organization) in August of that year.  After the Non-Governmental Organizations Act and the NGO Regulations went into effect in 2017, the members decided that ACME would be registered as a "indigenous organization" with the National Bureau of Non-Governmental Organizations

Summary of the Job

The Programme Officer will set up and run ACME's media production hub, building its programming, processes, and systems from the bottom up. They will also help create and deliver journalism training, make high-quality material for ACME's website, social media, and publications, and help with ACME's research and communications outputs.

 This is a role that cuts across different areas The officer will work with ACME's training, communications, and research teams to make sure that all of their work is consistent, new, and useful. They will help ACME achieve its larger goal of improving the quality of journalism and making the news media more trustworthy sources of information, tools for accountability, and places for lively public debate We want someone who is enterprising, very organized, flexible, and able to work with others Someone who is interested in journalism, media innovation, and public affairs, has a strong sense of judgment, and is intellectually curious

Duties, Roles, and Responsibilities in Detail

  • Oversee ACME's media production hub, which includes planning, making, and editing audio, video, and digital material
  • Write, read, and edit articles, blogs, explainers, issue briefs, and backgrounders for ACME's sites
  • Take care of and improve ACME's online presence, especially on its website and social media pages
  • Help create and deliver training modules for journalists on multimedia storytelling, online journalism, and other related skills
  • Help make research reports, communications materials, and other products that share information and expertise
  • Write down ACME's projects and activities and make content that can be shared with people inside and outside the company
  • Work with other teams to record, package, and show off ACME's work
  • Do any other work that helps ACME reach its strategic goals and mission

Skills, Education, and Qualifications

CategoryDescription
EducationA degree in journalism, communication, or a similar field; or a degree in another field with a professional certificate in journalism or communication
ExperienceAt least five years of work experience in the news media, creative production, or a similar field

Skills

  • Proven experience in making, producing, and running multimedia content
  • Good at writing and editing
  • Experience administering websites or digital platforms and being active online
  • Great in talking to people and communicating with the public
  • Can work with little or no supervision
  • Being able to design is a plus
