Job Summary
The Officer, Program Implementation – Safe Water Now is a field-based role critical to scaling the Chlorine Dispensers/Inline Chlorination (ILC) program, educating target communities on safe water and hygiene.
Roles, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Implement chlorine dispenser/ILC and related field activities in target communities
- Conduct meetings with local government and stakeholders, with support from the Associate Area Coordinator
- Perform water point nomination/verification surveys to generate lists of viable water points for chlorine dispenser and ILC
- Hold community sensitization gatherings to promote positive engagement with the program
- Ensure masons, plumbers, and technicians follow installation instructions, protocols, and designs for chlorine dispenser and ILC water points
- Conduct educational meetings at installed water points to train household users on safe device usage to prevent waterborne diseases
- Select and train community volunteers (promoters) to manage water sites and serve as program-community links
- Develop weekly work plans and document field activity reports
- Perform other tasks and responsibilities assigned by the Associate, Area Coordinator – Safe Water Now
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Community sensitization gatherings conducted
- Safe water program scale-up (chlorine dispensers and ILC installations)
- School campaigns implemented
- Health center visits facilitated
Qualifications, Education, and Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences and Community Development, Public Health, Project Management, or a related field
- Valid driver’s license and ability to ride a motorcycle or motor vehicle (advantageous)
- 1–2 years of experience working with communities or social enterprises/NGOs
- Fluency in English (oral and written)
- Knowledge of local languages or dialects used in target locations (e.g., Lugisu, Luganda, Lusoga) is an advantage
- Experience with electronic data collection tools, especially ODK and SurveyCTO (advantageous)
- High level of integrity and accountability
- Team champion embracing teamwork
- Willingness to work in remote areas and ride/travel by motorcycle in the field
- Ability to think creatively and relocate quickly to other regions for field-based tasks
- Self-motivated and highly driven to deliver results promptly
- Basic leadership, teamwork, and community engagement skills
