About the Organisation
The Africa Centre for Energy and Mineral Policy (ACEMP), established in 2012, is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving governance, research, capacity building, fairness, and social and economic justice in Uganda’s energy and extractive resource sectors.
With a mission to support at least 11 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, ACEMP aligns its efforts with Uganda’s Development Plans, Visions, and Strategies. Primarily focused on Nakapiripirit and Amudat Districts, with additional national-level initiatives, ACEMP drives sustainable development through community engagement and policy advocacy. Job Summary
The Project Officer – Climate Justice and Environmental Accountability will be the primary point of contact for executing project activities in Nakapiripirit District. The role involves planning, managing, and reporting on project activities under the supervision of the Programs and Communications Manager, ensuring effective and efficient implementation while addressing the local political and social landscape.
Roles, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and execute project activities in the assigned area
- Assist in developing work plans and budgets
- Engage and collaborate with stakeholders on project-related matters in the project area
- Support the preparation of regular reports, documenting lessons learned and experiences, and deliver presentations as needed
- Contribute to developing research and policy papers for public dissemination and stakeholder engagement
- Monitor project activities, including data collection for assessment, learning, and monitoring objectives
- Facilitate the creation or strengthening of district and regional networks to enhance collaboration among key stakeholders
- Attend meetings, workshops, and networking events with ACEMP partners as required or directed by management
- Adhere to ACEMP’s policies, processes, and standards when managing project funds and property
Qualifications, Education, and Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Social Work, Community Development, Environmental Studies, or a related field
- At least 2 years of experience in rural development programming, community engagement, stakeholder consultation, and working with communities and district-level stakeholders
- Experience in gender programming
- Demonstrated knowledge of monitoring and evaluation (advantageous)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- High level of integrity, dedication, and excellent report-writing skills
- Strong understanding of participatory and analytical communication approaches
- Self-management skills and commitment to ACEMP’s values
- Ability to mobilize and engage communities effectively
- Fluency in one or two local languages (e.g., Ngakarimojong, Pokot, Kiswahili)
- Ability to ride a motorcycle
- Willingness to work in remote areas and a passion for environmental and community development
