Caritas Uganda is the main organization that coordinates the socio-economic development of the Uganda Episcopal Conference.

It was founded in 1970 The agency's main goals are to provide emergency relief and rehabilitation end poverty stop the spread of HIV/AIDS improve community livelihood promote good governance enhance organizational development and build peace 

Their main goal is to help Ugandans find and deal with the core causes of poverty and injustice in their lives by working with and through local partners and the Caritas network to find and implement long-term solutions

Job Summary

The Caritas International office is in Ntida Kampala. The team is made up of the Protection Program Manager (PPM) the Regional Finance and Administration Coordinator (RAF) and a MEAL Officer (MO) who will join the team later. 

There is a Regional Head of Programs (RHOP) at our office in Ethiopia who also helps with the programs in Uganda 

We are searching for a Protection Program Manager to be in charge of the Uganda team and activities Caritas International works with local Caritas partners in Uganda, to coordinate emergency development and social cohesion efforts Right now our projects are in the Kikuube District-Kyangwali refugees settlement and hosting villages the Kyegegwa District-Kyaka II refugees settlement and hosting communities the Dokolo District-Lira and Kabale District-Nyakabande transit center Our main goal is to give these partners ongoing support and help them improve their technical and organizational skills

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Representing the organization: You speak for Caritas International at coordination forums and round tables (UN clusters heads of mission meetings HINGO Forum) keep up a special relationship with partners (Caritas network local and international actors authorities) and funders You look for money all the time
  • Making sure that Caritas International's strategy is followed: You create and keep an eye on the country strategy to make sure it fits with Caritas International's general strategy partnership policy and localization policy You are in charge of the (multi)annual action planning and program/project portfolio and you help the partners alter their programs to fit new situations
  • Managing the team: You are in charge of the Uganda team and make sure they do their jobs You are dedicated to keeping a culture of honesty openness fairness and inclusiveness in the team You make sure that the HR policies and labor code are followed and you are in charge of hiring office staff
  • Quality of the program: You keep an eye on the political security and socioeconomic situation and use your analysis to make decisions about the safety of teams the implementation of the program advocacy and communication You help with the use and tracking of planning tools and the assessment of how well projects and programs are going You help and supervise personnel as they work toward their goals and you write quarterly activity reports and go on field visits You will work closely with the regional director of programs to give partners technical help and advise on how to carry out and keep an eye on program activities You keep an eye on the regional finance and admin coordinator's work in the finance and admin areas
  • Communication with headquarters: You talk to the East Africa desk the East Africa Finance department and other departments (such communication and advocacy) on a frequent basis

Skills Qualifications and Experience

  • You hold a degree or something similar in development studies international relations sociology or another related discipline with a focus on humanitarian protection
  • You have worked on emergency and/or development projects for at least 10 years with an emphasis on protecting the most vulnerable people and their livelihoods
  • You know a lot about project management methods and ideas like nexus conflict sensitivity and gender You have worked with institutional donors before such as DGD ECHO EU and UN organizations
  • You know how to lead and enhance the capability of partners
  • You know a lot about MS Word and MS Excel You have a driver's license that is in good standing
