About Backbone Feeds

Backbone Group is a multinational corporation specializing in animal feed production, raw material trading, and fermentation biotechnology. In Uganda, we produce pig, poultry, and fish feeds, supporting sustainable agriculture and livestock farming.

Role Purpose

Bridge the language and cultural gap between Chinese-speaking staff and local Ugandan employees. Provide real-time interpretation, written translation, and mediation to support daily operations, technical coordination, and stakeholder communication.

Key Responsibilities

Provide simultaneous/consecutive interpretation (Mandarin ↔ English ↔ Local language) in meetings, trainings, and operations
Translate technical, administrative, and operational documents accurately
Support cross-cultural communication and mutual understanding
Assist with interpretation during site visits, external meetings, and logistics
Translate onboarding materials, policies, and production instructions
Ensure confidentiality, neutrality, and professionalism

Qualifications & Experience

Degree or Diploma in Chinese Language, Linguistics, Translation, International Relations, or related
Previous experience in Chinese-owned or agriculture-based companies (advantage)
Certification in interpretation/translation (advantage)
Fluency in Mandarin Chinese, English, and 1+ local Ugandan language
Proven professional interpretation/translation experience
Strong technical terminology in agriculture, manufacturing, or logistics
Cultural intelligence, interpersonal skills, professionalism
Excellent listening, memory, and note-taking
