Job Summary

Career Directions is looking for a Human Resource Assistant to work for a hospitality client in Jinja, Uganda This is a key operational role that supports all parts of the HR function The best candidate would be a detail-oriented expert with a good awareness of HR operations and Ugandan labor regulations They should also have worked in the hospitality or service industry

Main Duties

HR Operations:

  • Help with all aspects of hiring, onboarding, and keeping employee records
  • Manage employment contracts and make sure that workers follow corporate rules and Ugandan labor regulations

Support for Attendance and Payroll:

  • Keep an eye on and keep track of employee attendance and leave records
  • Make sure that payroll data is reported on time and correctly

Training and Development:

  • Help set up training sessions and performance reviews
  • Help staff development programs that aim to increase the abilities of the workforce

Employee Relations:

  • Help with HR policies and deal with complaints from employees
  • Keep things very private and pass on complicated problems to the HR Manager

Documentation and Compliance:

  • Make and keep all HR documents, such as contracts and records of disciplinary actions
  • Make sure that compliance records are ready for audits, both inside and outside the company

Skills and Experience

RequirementDetails
EducationA diploma or bachelor's degree in business administration, human resource management, or a similar discipline
Experience3–5 years of progressively more difficult HR work, preferably in the hospitality or service industry (e.g., hotels, restaurants, catering, or retail)

Certification:
Being a member of an HR professional group (like HRMAU or CIPD) is a plus
Proven Skills:
Experience in HR administration, hiring, and dealing with employees in fast-paced, customer-facing settings
Skills and Abilities:
Great at planning and carrying out HR processes from start to finish
Good understanding of Ugandan labor regulations and what has to be done to follow them
Very good at organizing and running things, with a lot of attention to detail
Great communication and people skills
The ability to keep secret information private and honest
Good at using Microsoft Office; knowing how to use HRIS is a plus
Good at solving problems and able to handle many tasks at once
Personal Traits:
High integrity, professionalism, and secrecy
Able to work in both an office and a field/site setting
Dependable, proactive, and a good team player
