Program Background

The Next Creata Program is the flagship initiative under the Uganda Creatives Program, in partnership with Bayimba Foundation, ITC, and Mastercard Foundation.

It aims to skill, employ, and financially include 40,000 young women through:

  • Media production training
  • Digital upskilling
  • Market linkage
  • Entrepreneurial pathways

Role Overview

The Coordinator, Next Creata designs and manages pathways for trainees to transition from unpaid creative work to paid opportunities via internships, freelance, short-term projects, studio placements, collaborations, and full-time jobs.

You are the bridge between learning and earning — building industry pipelines, supporting portfolio development, and ensuring real-world application of skills.

Key Responsibilities

Work Placement & Industry Pipeline Development

  • Identify, engage, and retain partnerships with:
    • Media companies (TV, radio, digital newsrooms)
    • Creative & ad agencies
    • Film & music studios, production houses
    • Digital influencer networks & content startups
  • Secure agreements for internships, freelance gigs, and job placements

Internship Program Management

  • Match participants to suitable placements based on skill level
  • Prepare participants through:
    • Pre-placement orientation
    • Work readiness coaching (professionalism, client handling, time management)
  • Regular check-ins with hosts and placed participants

Mentorship Network Building

  • Recruit and train mentors (producers, editors, designers, content leads)
  • Structure 1:1 sessions, group critiques, and work-in-progress reviews
  • Organize masterclasses, guest lectures, and career clinics

Portfolio & Career Path Support

  • Guide trainees in building:
    • Professional portfolios
    • Creative CVs & digital profiles
    • Demo reels & showreels
  • Support alumni in job search and professional branding

Placement Tracking & Reporting

  • Maintain detailed dashboards tracking:
    • Who was placed
    • Where, in what role
    • Duration & income earned
  • Submit monthly transition reports to Program Lead & MEL Manager

Safeguarding & Participant Care

  • Ensure all work placements meet safety and inclusivity standards
  • Report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the Safeguarding Officer

Skills, Education & Experience

Experience: 3–5 years in talent management, casting, HR placement, production management, creative business development, artist management, or media coordination

Network: Strong connections in Uganda’s film, music, radio, TV, and digital content creation communities

Preferred: Experience supporting youth, emerging artists, or training graduates

Languages: Multilingual (Luganda & other local languages a plus)

Technical Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of Uganda’s creative industry
  • Ability to vet credible creative employers and talent
  • Strong mentor-mentee matching and skill development
  • Understanding of freelance models and creative entrepreneurship

Soft Skills:

  • Relationship builder and network connector
  • Excellent listener, motivator, and youth supporter
  • Highly organized, proactive, and reliable
  • Confident communicator with artists, executives, and community leaders
