Summary of the Job:

The Lead Lawyer for Sub-Saharan Africa will be the main legal advisor for Glovo's business in Uganda and the surrounding area. This job involves handling day-to-day legal tasks, making sure that the company follows the law, and giving strategic legal advice to help the firm grow. You will work with local teams and the headquarters legal department.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Be the key legal person in charge of activities in Sub-Saharan Africa
Report directly to the Africa Head of Legal on all legal matters
Write, examine, and look over different business contracts and agreements
Give full legal advice on issues related to following the rules
Take care of the legal needs for privacy, labor, compliance, and regulated items
Work with and coordinate with outside law firms and legal partners
Help with strategic analysis and the implementation of company initiatives
Put in place corporate governance policies and procedures
Be in charge of special projects and corporate reporting duties
Do due diligence and risk assessment work
Write and keep track of corporate documents
Come up with proactive legal ways to solve corporate problems
Keep an eye on and analyze changes in the law and regulations
Handle lawsuits and other legal issues
Train internal teams on how to follow the law
Help with contract negotiation and management
Make sure that local and international legal requirements are met

Skills and Qualifications:

At least seven years of experience working in corporate legal departments or well-known law firms
At least three years of experience as an in-house lawyer for businesses
Knowledge of commercial law, consumer protection, and antitrust rules
Good understanding of labor law and rules for hiring and firing
Very good in English, Arabic, and French - knowing more languages is a plus
Have worked in different places and with people from different cultures
Great at talking to and presenting to people - has an international professional reputation and works well with others
Can operate in surroundings that are flexible and have people from different fields
Lots of energy, creativity, and a desire to start your own business
Experience in the tech or delivery industry is a plus
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Being able to adapt to business situations that are always changing and expanding
A commitment to ideals of diversity and an open workplace
