Job Summary:

The Operational Excellence Manager will be in charge of putting AGL's OpEx strategy into action in Uganda. This job reports to the Managing Director and works closely with the Regional OpEx team.

 It is very important for improving operational maturity, getting measurable outcomes, and making sure that improvement initiatives are in line with the company's goal. 

The OpEx Manager will be a significant player in developing the AGL's performance culture as a member of the Executive Committee.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Planning and Governance

• Find and evaluate operational problems; keep a prioritized list of ways to improve
• Create and oversee a portfolio of OpEx projects that support strategic goals
• Work with the Executive Committee to set priorities and encourage participation in improvement projects

Leading and Carrying Out Projects

• Based on the complexity of the problem and the effect on the business, choose the right project techniques (such Lean or Six Sigma).
• Lead important improvement projects and give hands-on mentoring for projects that are already going on.
• Build and manage a network of OpEx partners inside and outside the company to make a bigger difference.

Building Skills and Changing Culture

• Teach and coach operations managers in the main OpEx tools (visual management, standard work, problem solving)
• Create and carry out customized training programs for all terminal employees to help with cultural change
• Raise awareness and visibility of OpEx initiatives throughout the organization

Sharing Knowledge and Setting Standards

• Record and keep track of successful projects so they can be copied.
• Use the best practices of other AGL subsidiaries to spark new ideas and speed up learning.

Qualifications and Work History:

• A bachelor's degree in engineering, industrial management, operations, supply chain, business administration, or a similar discipline is required. A master's degree (MBA or a related field) is a plus.
• It is greatly desirable that you have a professional certification in Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt).
• More training in project management, change management, or continuous improvement methods.
• Experience managing Operational Excellence programs.
• Success with Lean and Six Sigma methods.
• Experience using OpEx techniques at more than one site
