Summary of the Job:

The Operations Manager will be in charge of managing all aspects of operations for a variety of client portfolios, making sure that Sea Freight, Airfreight, Warehousing, and Inland Container Depot services are all top-notch. This strategic position leads efforts to improve service quality, cut costs, boost efficiency, and make things better all the time in Uganda's ever-changing logistical environment.

It uses cutting-edge technology and a large network to make complicated logistical operations run more smoothly while also encouraging sustainable economic growth and environmental stewardship.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

Leading and growing a team:

  • Lead and coach a high-performing operations team that works toward the goals of the organization
  • Set clear performance goals and encourage a culture of accountability
  • Be in charge of hiring, onboarding, and initiatives to build capacity
  • Do performance assessments and make plans for career progression
  • Create a team environment where people work together and plan for the future

Operational Excellence:

  • Make sure that all operational units work together in the best way possible to get the most done.
  • Work with the QHSE teams to make sure that Standard Operating Procedures are followed and updated.
  • Start projects for ongoing improvement that save money
  • Make sure that all operations are reliable and provide good service
  • Keep an eye on and improve operational productivity measures

Managing Clients and Portfolios:

  • Make sure that all clients get the services they pay for and that contracts are followed.
  • Work with Sales and Finance to create tariffs and client presentations.
  • Provide service that is quick and responsive to build good relationships with clients
  • Take care of service level agreements and customer profitability
  • Come up with solutions to clients' logistics problems

Quality and Financial Performance:

  • Meet budget goals by keeping an eye on gross margins and costs
  • Be a part of the disbursement control committee to make sure the company is following the rules
  • Keep an eye on and analyze operational KPIs to make things better
  • Take steps to fix problems with quality and financial goals
  • Increase profits by making operations more efficient

Managing Risks and Subcontractors:

  • Handle ties with government agencies and transportation companies
  • Keep an eye on how well subcontractors follow AGL rules and policies
  • Work with the right people to find and reduce operational risks
  • Make sure that all partner networks meet the same service criteria
  • Make sure that all operations follow the rules

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A bachelor's degree in business administration, logistics, supply chain, or procurement
  • At least 10 years of expertise in clearing and forwarding
  • At least 5 years in a senior logistics management position
  • A full understanding of international freight forwarding
  • Knowledge of logistics and transportation across borders and across corridors
  • Good at using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowing how to use logistical systems like SAP and Power BI is a plus.
  • Great at leading and analyzing things
  • Good at talking to and getting along with others
  • Has a history of running things efficiently
  • Experience in making customers happy
  • The ability to think strategically and solve problems
  • The ability to adapt and have emotional intelligence
  • Outcomes - very organized and driven
  • A team leadership style that works with others
