Job Summary

The pharmacist is in charge of giving advanced pharmaceutical care, managing medications, and making sure the pharmacy department runs safely and efficiently.

This job includes overseeing pharmacy technicians and staff, making sure they follow all rules and regulations, and working with other healthcare experts to get the best results for patients

Duties, Roles, and Responsibilities

Giving out and managing medications:

  • Check and confirm that medicine orders are correct, suitable, and won't interact with other medications
  • Make ensuring that drugs are prepared and given to patients correctly
  • Keep an eye on the storage and stability of medications and make changes as needed

Services for Clinical Pharmacy:

  • Help patients with complicated medical problems with their prescription therapy and pharmaceutical care
  • Work with healthcare professionals to make drug schedules as effective as possible and fix any difficulties that come up with medications
  • Take part in clinical rounds and give healthcare personnel information about drugs

Staff Development and Supervision:

  • Help and guide junior pharmacists, pharmacy techs, and support workers
  • Give constructive feedback, do performance reviews, and help personnel grow
  • Make sure that there are enough staff members to handle everyday operations

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

  • Make sure that the pharmacy follows all federal, state, and local rules
  • Make sure that the paperwork and records connected to medications are prepared and kept up to date
  • Take part in efforts to improve and ensure quality

Managing Inventory:

  • Take care of inventory control, which includes ordering, receiving, and refilling medicines and supplies
  • Set up processes to cut down on waste, make sure there are enough medications, and keep expenses down

Teaching and counseling patients:

  • Teach patients how to take their medications correctly, what adverse effects could happen, and how to stick to their schedule
  • Give advice on over-the-counter drugs and other health goods

Learning and growing as a professional all the time:

  • Keep current with new drugs and changes in how pharmacies work
  • To keep your licenses and certificates, you need to keep learning and training

Qualifications, Education, and Skills

RequirementDetails
EducationA Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from a recognized university  
State license as a registered pharmacist with no disciplinary actions
ExperienceAt least three years of experience working in a hospital or pharmacy, with proof of leadership qualities

Skills:  
A lot of information about drugs, pharmacology, and the rules and laws that govern pharmacies  
Good in talking to others, getting along with them, and solving problems  
Ability to make good choices under pressure and function in a fast-paced setting  
Good in organizing things and paying attention to details

Preferred Qualifications:  
Certification from the board in a pharmacy specialty  
Registered and licensed by the Uganda Pharmaceutical Society  
Experience in a supervisory or management position before  
Understanding of pharmacy automation and electronic health record (EHR) technologies  
Working on quality improvement projects in a hospital setting
