Job Summary

To help plan and carry out youth training programs in agronomy, business skills, entrepreneurship, and nursery bed operations so that young people learn skills that will help them get jobs or start their own businesses in the coffee and horticulture value chains

Duties, Roles, and Responsibilities

  • Help find and choose young people who will benefit from instruction in agronomic methods like preparing soil, choosing seeds, grafting, and controlling pests and diseases
  • Plan and teach classes (both hands-on and theoretical) on topics like company management, marketing, sustainability, and agriculture
  • Work with field teams and technical specialists to make sure that the training materials are up-to-date and meet the needs of the market value chain
  • Help run nursery beds by overseeing seed planting, watering, upkeep, pest control, and the supply of seedlings
  • Help trainees find internships, placements, and jobs; help them find jobs that are a good fit for them
  • Keep track of who comes to training, how they are doing, and what skills they learn Get feedback from the participants
  • Work with VSLA assistants, cooperatives, and other parts of the project to make sure that everyone learns from each other and that there are synergies
  • Help with paperwork such training materials, reports, and success stories

Qualifications, Education, and Skills

RequirementDetails
EducationA degree or diploma in agriculture, agribusiness, horticulture, or a similar subject
ExperienceAt least one to three years of experience with youth training programs; knowledge of TVET (or skills training) settings is a plus
Skills

Ability to work in the field and get real-world experience capacity to talk to others, help them, and mentor them; capacity to get young people excited A basic understanding of how to grow a business and how to be environmentally friendly.

 You must be able to speak and write English and some local languages fluently You must be able to ride a motorcycle if you have a valid riding permit
