Job Summary

The Project Manager at Catholic Relief Services leads, coordinates, and monitors all activities for the Restore Africa project in the Eastern Districts of Namisindwa, Manafwa, Tororo, Pallisa, Kween, and Bukwo. The role involves supervising Project Officers, providing strategic and technical agroforestry guidance, overseeing planning, monitoring, and evaluation, and ensuring effective stakeholder collaboration to support CRS’s mission of aiding the poor and vulnerable.

Roles, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Lead technical, budget management, monitoring, and reporting activities throughout the project cycle (startup to close-out), ensuring compliance with CRS program quality principles, donor requirements, and best practices
  • Supervise and manage staff, ensuring team well-being, positive dynamics, and talent development through coaching, individualized growth plans, recruitment support, and performance monitoring
  • Integrate learning into project activities across the project cycle
  • Follow CRS’s MEAL Policy to coordinate project evaluation activities for accountability
  • Proactively identify and report issues to enable adaptive management of plans and timelines
  • Strengthen partnerships critical to the Restore Africa initiative using appropriate partnership concepts, tools, and methods
  • Represent CRS to local partners, government, and community groups in project areas
  • Ensure projects have adequate funding, materials, and staffing for successful execution
  • Conduct regular budget reviews and ensure partners submit timely financial reports to monitor resource use
  • Identify staff capacity and technical support needs for partner organizations, facilitating capacity building and adjustments for successful project implementation
  • Lead and coordinate land restoration activities across six districts
  • Oversee and support Project Officers to ensure timely and high-quality project delivery
  • Integrate district plans into a cohesive regional work plan aligned with project objectives

Qualifications, Education, and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • 5–8 years of project management experience, preferably in agroforestry and community engagement with an NGO

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in International Relations or Agroforestry
  • Experience contributing to technical proposal writing

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Proven experience in staff supervision and team coordination
  • Ability to engage stakeholders at various levels and strengthen community partnerships
  • Experience in data analysis and writing assessment and project reports
  • Proficiency in MS Windows and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong critical thinking and innovative problem-solving skills
  • Excellent relationship management and representation skills with local stakeholders
  • Proactive, results-driven, and service-oriented approach
  • High attention to detail for accurate and timely task completion
  • Strong leadership, coordination, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in planning, monitoring, and evaluation tools
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure
  • Fluency in English with strong oral and written communication skills; knowledge of local languages in the project districts is an advantage

Travel

Candidates must be willing and able to travel up to 50% of the time to CRS field sites.
