Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Portfolio Manager

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda

Summary of the Job: Our client is a corporation that offers a variety of investing services, such as managing private wealth, unit trusts, and funds. It helps people and businesses invest in several types of assets, such as money market, fixed income, and equities, with the goal of helping them keep and build their wealth.

Roles, Duties, and Responsibilities

The Assistant Portfolio Manager helps the Portfolio Manager run investment portfolios so that they suit the needs of clients. As part of this job, you will do investment research, keep an eye on market developments, look at how well a portfolio is doing, and write reports. The best candidate has great analytical skills, a good understanding of finance, and a strong interest in markets and building portfolios.

  • Help with the daily management and monitoring of investment portfolios
  • Do basic and quantitative research on stocks, industries, and trends in the market.
  • Write investment memos, performance reports, and presentations for clients or those who work for the company.
  • Keep an eye on the risk in your portfolio, how your assets are spread out, and how well you follow investment rules.
  • Come up with trading ideas and help with executing trades and rebalancing portfolios
  • Keep portfolio management systems up to date and make sure data is entered correctly.
  • Work with the research analysts, operations, and compliance teams
  • Help come up with investing plans and give suggestions on how to divide up assets.
  • Keep up with changes in the market and rules that effect investments.
  • Invest money in the right way, following the house view and the client's investment rules.
  • Keep and improve connections with clients and stakeholders to keep them, expand your business, and find new business prospects.
  • Help business growth by giving them technical bid information, client leads, and market knowledge to stay up to date on industry trends.

Requirements, Education, and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Business, or Finance
  • Getting closer to the CFA designation
  • CISI diploma
  • Understanding of risk management measurements and methods

Information about experience

  • At least three (3) years of experience in a job that helps with investments

Knowledge, talents, and abilities

  • Great communication and presentation skills, including the ability to write reports, proposals, concept papers, position papers, and other publications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural abilities, such as the capacity to form alliances and work together with people from different backgrounds.
  • Being able to pay attention to details and operate under pressure
  • A good grasp of portfolio theory, financial markets, and financial instruments
  • The ability to think strategically and solve problems
  • Great at analyzing, solving problems, and doing math
  • Ability to manage relationships with customers (both internal and external) well
  • A proactive attitude and a focus on the team
