What the Job Is
Title of the Job: Chief Commercial Officer
Group: MTN Mobile Money Uganda
Location of Work: Kampala, Uganda
Reports to: the Managing Director
Job Summary: The Chief Commercial Officer is in charge of running all of Fintech's commercial plans and making sure that all of the company's commercial strategies are put into action in order to meet MTN Mobile Money Uganda's goals.
The job is to lead business activities for all products and services and to lead teams in the four sub-functions listed below:
- Business for Corporations
- Business Operations
- Distribution
- CVM
The function also needs to make important business relationships and accounts and keep an eye on how resources are used so that company plans may be carried out smoothly.
The job involves working under the direction of the Group Executive Fintech Commercial Operations and keeping in touch with the Group Fintech Commercial Operations team on a regular basis.
The Chief Commercial Officer answers to MD-MTN Mobile Money Uganda and gets help from Senior Managers.
Duties, Roles, and Responsibilities
The Chief Commercial Officer will be in charge of reaching the following goals:
- Lead the development of the functional strategy that is in line with the group's mandate and the overall business goals.
- Make sure that the strategy is carried out correctly by creating and giving direction, structure, frameworks, models, plans, and roadmaps.
- Make sure that the functional strategy and roadmap are in line with the changing dynamics of the internal and external ecosystem by leading regular reviews of them.
Management and Leadership of Staff
- You can build and lead a high-performing team by giving them direction, making sure everyone knows their function, training them, and helping them grow in their careers.
- Source, hire, and manage talent in a way that follows the law
- Keep building a culture of great teamwork and collaboration.
- Make sure that personnel can talk to one other freely and make changes when they need to.
- Give the team clear definitions of their roles, responsibilities, individual goals, and performance targets.
- Set KPIs and give regular feedback on performance through a performance review approach that is clear and followed.
- Make a training strategy and put it into action so that the team can learn and improve their skills.
- Implement a knowledge transfer strategy to encourage the sharing of knowledge and use the plan to promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Manage resources according to HR policy and the law where necessary.
- Take part in the leadership team and help your own team improve their talents.
- Encourage a "Fintech centric" and "partnership approach" to build strong ties with other working groups and make sure everyone follows Group rules.
Leadership
- Meetings for Strategy Hold strategic meetings where subordinates can participate and give their thoughts and advice on the several topics being discussed.
- Lead MTN MoMo transformation projects and get feedback from the right people.
- Lead the implementation of proper risk controls and mitigation
- Keep an eye on the evaluation baseline for Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and KPIs
- Give the go-ahead for new projects and, if they are outside of DoA, get MD/Group permission.
- Give the right amount of money to internal projects
- Look over the plan for change initiatives SLA, policies, and procedures, and make that they are carried out.
Rising Issues
- Bring up problems that will have a big effect on schedule, scope, productivity, cost, or resources to the CEO or group team.
- Manage and find solutions to escalations that affect the critical path of service delivery in more than one process or function.
Tactical Function
- Look at all the projects that were started in the function
- Go over and finish the function's goals, targets, and budgets.
- Look at the main risks, problems, and dependencies, and then decide what to do about them.
- Make and keep track of finances
- Sign off on or make choices about tactical changes
- Lead tactical meetings
How well it works
- Keep an eye on how well things are doing and how well they fit with MTN MoMo Uganda and the group's strategy.
- Review of SLA approval and performance exceptions
Reporting
- Once a month, report to the MD on how well the function is doing and how it is meeting the organization's measurement goals.
- Report on individual projects as needed on an ad hoc basis
Money
- Manage the budgets of the function in line with the goals of the business
- Make sure that project initiative budgets are in accordance with company goals
- Make sure that the cost of doing business goes down, in line with a least-cost operational strategy that comes from the business drivers.
Delivery of Operations
Functional Leadership: As the functional leader of the Commercial Operations vertical, the job is responsible for:
- Make sure that the Commercial Operations Vertical's direction, strategy, and outcomes are in compliance with the Group's rules by keeping an eye on them and making sure that they are in line with the rules.
- Owner of OpCo's unique commercial value propositions, services, and channels
- Lead the search for and negotiation of strategic alliances and business development transactions and activities.
- Give Executive Fintech Commercial Operations input on how well and efficiently the present processes are working.
- Meet with the other OpCo Heads of Commercial Operations and the Group Commercial Operations team to talk about ways to make internal processes and work streams better.
- Lead and promote a philosophy of developing integrated solutions and solving problems throughout the function.
- Keep an eye on true-value metrics to see how the function affects OpCo and, in turn, Group FinCo.
- Keep making things better in all areas
- Make the real value of the function in Group FinCo and Opco more visible to encourage more people to use and accept the service.
Leadership in Delivery: As the delivery leader of the Commercial Operations vertical, the job is responsible for the following results in the work area:
- Budgeting, strategy and analytics, data and reporting Make ensuring that the rules, procedures, and guidelines specified by the group Commercial team are followed and put into action.
- Lead, control, and set up governance to oversee the combined OpCo Commercial Operations strategy, budgets, and finances.
- In the Function, spread the Group Fintech budget, analytics, and reporting framework.
- Follow all the rules and report on compliance periodically while getting results under the direction of the Executive Fintech Commercial Operations.
Developing a Business
- Make and keep strategic partnerships with important businesses, small and medium-sized businesses, and the government to help your firm develop and do well.
- To help Fintech thrive, make sure you regularly talk to and keep an eye on Partner Banks.
- Use industry trends to find new outlets, make plans, and make sure they are put into action.
Keeping an eye on budgets all the time
- Check your business plans and budgets every so often to see how well you're doing compared to what you planned.
- Look into differences and find the core cause of variances with the help of the right stakeholders.
- Make strategies and budgets that include steps to fix the problems.
- Based on the results of the actual vs. budget analysis, suggest changes to budgets and business strategies.
- Check the expenditures and revenues to make sure they always match the budgeted lines, and let the financial reporting staff know if they don't.
- Check the costs at the time of the purchase request to make sure they are accurately assigned to the budgeted lines and that there is enough money in the budget before any commitments are made.
Duties of a Manager or Supervisor
- In charge of the function's human capital's morale, performance, and growth
- Get the team's approval for the work structure method before it is used.
- Give direct reports coaching and advice
- Make sure the team you lead is motivated, rewarded, and led to reach KPA's.
- Make sure that all employees have access to coaching and mentorship programs and personal development plans.
- Make sure that the function's diverse staff is managed well.
- Find out what training and development your staff needs and take the steps needed to meet those requirements.
- Encourage and manage people to do their best work, especially when it comes to meeting deadlines and delivering on time.
- Have the power, presence, and honesty to earn the respect of coworkers and people outside of work.
- Help direct reports grow in their careers by counseling, coaching, finding critical performance areas, making career plans, and setting goals.
- Give direction and leadership to make sure that the future is bright and the present is efficient.
Qualifications, Education, and Skills
- A bachelor's degree and an MBA or master's degree at the very least
- A four-year degree in computer science, engineering, business, or a related profession will be helpful.
- Experience:
- At least 10 years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management capacity or a related job.
- You must have worked in fintech, banking, or financial services before.
- A history of success as a senior manager in achieving outstanding business development and financial performance
- Experience working for a global or international company and an excellent understanding of emerging markets
- Knowledge that is useful:
- Commercial (CLM, billing and reconciliation, float management, agent and merchant lifecycle management, and getting to market)
- Business Development (planning and strategy for sales, forecasting sales, managing channels, and reporting and analytics)
- CVM (data mining, customer profiling, cross/up-sell, campaign and promotion management, value model building, loyalty and churn management)
- Brand and marketing (trade marketing, ATL/BTL/TTL marketing, digital and social media marketing, brand management, advertising, and content writing)
