Location of Duty: Kampala, Uganda

The Senior Manager of Partnerships and Business Development is in charge of this person.

Summary of the Job: The Grants and Sustainability Specialist is responsible for securing external funding to support the department’s initiatives, particularly those aimed at promoting financial inclusion for the informal sector. This job makes sure that these projects will last beyond their initial lifecycles, which helps the NSSF reach its goals of getting more people involved.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Grant Acquisition and Management:

  • Find possible sources of money, such as international organizations, non-profits, and government agencies.
  • Prepare and submit grant proposals, ensuring alignment with the department’s strategic objectives.
  • Manage the grant application process, including analyzing submissions, doing cost evaluations, and negotiating terms with funding partners.
  • Monitor and report on grant-funded initiatives to ensure compliance with grant terms and conditions.

Sustainability Planning:

  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure the long-term sustainability of department projects.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers to integrate sustainability plans into project designs from the outset.
  • Regularly check on the project's sustainability and suggest ways to make it better.

Managing and reporting on finances:

  • Make and keep track of budgets for projects that get money from grants, making sure that the money is used and given out in the way that the donor wants.
  • Develop financial reports and documentation for funders and internal stakeholders.
  • Make ensuring that grant spending is tracked and reported on time and accurately.

Working with and involving stakeholders:

  • Build and maintain relationships with funding agencies, donors, and other stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the department and external funding bodies.
  • Go to meetings, conferences, and other events as a department representative to promote funding opportunities.

Capacity Building:

  • Give department personnel training and help in writing grants, managing them, and making sure they last.
  • Make the department better able to get and manage grants by creating internal processes and tools.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Relevant professional credentials and membership, where applicable

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience—in grant writing, management, and sustainability planning—with at least three (3) years at a managerial level.
  • Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or in a financial inclusion role.
