Summary of the Job

The Project Manager will help with the technical side of the UNIQLO Project which is a child protection and education project in Uganda for refugees

The job needs full programmatic and operational leadership which includes planning implementing managing partnerships making sure rules are followed keeping track of the budget evaluating and reporting

The Manager will make sure that project deliverables are delivered on time at all intervention sites

If needed they may also help with emergency humanitarian responses.

Responsibilities in Detail

1. Strategic Management and Coordination

  • Make sure that the UNIQLO project activities in settlements and receiving centers are carried out according to the project design Save the Children (SC) and donor standards
  • Build and keep strong partnerships with partners stakeholders and local and regional governments
  • Speak for the project at regional events and make sure that high-quality reports are sent in on time
  • Work with Technical Thematic Teams to improve the delivery documentation and reporting of programs
  • Write out the project's effects including success stories best practices and the most important change stories with pictures to back them up
  • Work with the Partnership Manager to improve the skills of partners and make sure that programs are delivered effectively
  • Get people in the community involved and make them feel like they own the project to make a lasting difference

2. Planning and Carrying Out Operations

  • Be in charge of establishing detailed implementation plans (DIPs) phased budgets and frameworks for monitoring
  • Make sure that the activities and costs of the program follow the plans that have been authorized and the rules set by donors
  • Help project personnel and partners with their yearly planning making sure that the plans are affordable on schedule and follow SC standards
  • Keep an eye on how the project is doing and deal with problems as they come up to keep things moving and reach your goals

3. Managing the Budget and Finances

  • Make sure the project money is managed correctly and that everyone follows donor rules and SC policies
  • Use tools like money versus Actual (BvA) reports to keep an eye on the budget and deal with any differences right away
  • Help partners learn how to manage their money better and make sure they are responsible
  • Get permission to change the budget in a way that meets donor needs

4. Managing Partnerships

  • Give partners more skills through training mentoring and continuing help
  • Help stakeholders network to improve cooperation and the use of resources
  • Make sure that partners stick to the project's goals and reporting criteria

5. Being Responsible and Reporting

  • Write and send narrative and financial reports to funders and SC management on schedule
  • Check partner reports to make sure they are correct and follow the rules
  • Have quarterly performance reviews to talk about problems and make sure that actions are in line with project goals

6. Getting Stakeholders Involved

  • Be the project's voice in meetings workshops and networks to share what you've learned and make connections
  • Keep in touch with national and local stakeholders on a frequent basis to make sure everyone is on the same page and gets the help they need

7. Technical Supervision

  • Give staff and partners advice on the technical parts of child protection and education
  • Make sure that interventions are based on evidence and follow best practices

8. Managing Human Resources

  • Oversee guide and evaluate the people working on the project
  • Find out what training is needed and help people grow professionally
  • Create a work environment that is both cooperative and productive

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • A bachelor's degree in education the humanities or a related discipline
  • At least five years of experience putting programs into action with three of those years spent in a management role in an international NGO
  • Experience running programs that work together like those for education child protection and child rights governance
  • Good at planning budgeting and keeping an eye on things
  • Able to use computer programs and write documentation well

Desirable

  • Knowledge of how Save the Children works and how to interact with partners
  • Experience working with local partners and government structures
  • Great skills in analysis communication and working with others
  • Willingness to go to faraway places and work in tough situations
Academic Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in education the humanities or a related discipline
