About the Organization

Save the Children Fund is a global non-governmental organization dedicated to improving the lives of children through education, health, and protection programs

It operates in Uganda to support vulnerable children, particularly through initiatives focused on child protection and education

Summary of the Job

The Driver will be in charge of driving Save the Children vehicles to safely and efficiently move staff, goods, and documents according to the organization's rules and norms

The job includes making sure that automobiles are in good shape and meet all safety rules

The person in this role may also need to help with emergency humanitarian response activities when needed

Main Duties

1. Safety and Operation of Vehicles

  • Drive Save the Children vehicles to make sure that people, documents, and goods get to their destinations safely and on time
  • Follow all driving laws and rules, and let people know if they could be breaking them
  • Always keep cars clean, safe, and in good working order
  • Check the oil, water, brake fluid, fan belt, and other things before you leave to make sure the car is safe to drive
  • Make sure that the equipment and accessories for the car, like the spare wheel, jack, first aid kit, and fire extinguisher, are there and work

2. Taking Care of Vehicles and Keeping Records

  • Keep an eye on the condition of the vehicles and tell the supervisor (Fleet Coordinator or Supply Chain Officer/Manager) as soon as possible if there are any problems or damage
  • Suggest scheduled repairs and maintenance that follow Save the Children's rules
  • Keep correct and up-to-date mileage log sheets and send in monthly reports
  • Make sure that the vehicle's insurance and road licenses are current and renewed on schedule

3. Following the Rules and Acting Professionally

  • Help workers and guests in a professional way, giving them the help they need
  • Follow Save the Children's Code of Conduct, Child Protection Policy, Security Guidelines, and moral rules
  • Show that you can manage your time well, stay organized, and do more than one thing at a time
  • Work together as a team and get along well with coworkers from different backgrounds

4. Extra Work

  • Be ready to go to field sites and work in hard-to-reach areas, even when conditions are tough
  • Be willing to put in extra hours when needed, especially during humanitarian catastrophes
  • Do any other tasks that are given to you as part of your job

Experience and Qualifications

Important Requirements

  • At least an O-Level Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE)
  • You must have had a valid driving license (Classes DM, DL, CM, or B) for at least three years
  • At least five years of driving experience, preferably with an international NGO
  • Being able to read and write in English well
  • Know a lot about routes, project regions, and the NGO and diplomatic communities
  • Know how to use a computer (MS Word, Excel)
  • Knowing the rules and policies for Save the Children's vehicles

Good Qualities

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to operate in a culturally varied environment and be sensitive to other cultures
  • Dependability, patience, and a strong sense of responsibility
Academic Qualifications
At least an O-Level Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE)
