Summary of the Job:
The Telecom Engineer will be in charge of setting up, configuring, and putting into service full telecommunications systems that support substation operations and important communications infrastructure.
This job entails making sure that all telecom systems fulfill strict criteria for performance, redundancy, and cybersecurity, and that they work well with SCADA and control systems to offer the best possible project.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the installation and removal of telecom gear such routers, switches, and fiber optic networks
- Set up and test telecom infrastructure that supports voice, data, and SCADA communications
- Set up and test the LAN/WAN architecture for remote substations in an industrial setting
- Do thorough link tests, check the quality of the signals, and make sure the redundancy paths are working.
- Work with the control and SCADA teams to make sure that data is sent without any problems.
- Make sure that telecom performance standards, such as latency and bandwidth, are met
- Connect radio communication technologies (UHF/VHF) and IP telephony according to project standards
- Follow IT/OT rules to make network devices more secure.
- Keep accurate records, such as rack layouts, fiber schedules, and IP plans.
- Work with vendors, subcontractors, and utility ICT representatives.
- Oversee the installation, splicing, and termination of fiber optic cables.
- Oversee the installation and configuration of antenna systems.
- Check that telecom alarms and system failover mechanisms work
- Make sure that the layouts of equipment rooms follow structured cabling standards
- Help with commissioning activities and system integration testing
Skills and Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in telecommunications, electrical, or electronics engineering
- At least 4–6 years of expertise in telecom engineering on infrastructure or energy projects
- Expertise with integrating Schneider Electric telecom or SCADA
- A professional certification in network design, such as CCNA, FOA, or something similar
- Being able to speak English well (French or Swahili is a plus)
- Worked on oil and gas, substations, or industrial automation projects before
- Good at using network configuration tools and fiber test equipment
- Good understanding of SCADA connection protocols (Modbus TCP/IP, IEC 61850) and IP addressing and VLAN management
- Knowledge of structured cabling and industrial Ethernet standards
- Knowledge of cybersecurity measures in industrial networks
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Great at coordinating and addressing problems in the field
- Good at writing and talking to people
- Knowing about safety and following HSE policies
- Taking the initiative to solve technical problems

- Percentage of telecom systems that were installed and put into service on time
- Test results for signal quality, availability, and redundancy
- Number of telecom-related non-conformance reports
- Quality of telecom documentation and rack layouts
- Successful integration with SCADA and control systems
- Meeting cybersecurity and performance standards
