Summary of the Job:
The Chief Accountant will set up and run all of JW Marriott Kampala's accounting processes during the important time before the hotel opens. This important job includes setting up the hotel's financial systems, putting in place accounting procedures, and laying the groundwork for a smooth opening. You will be in charge of daily accounting tasks, making sure that the hotel follows Marriott's worldwide standards, and giving financial leadership to help the property's operational teams.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Accounting Operations and Following the Rules:
- Carry out and keep an eye on daily accounting tasks that have an effect on the general ledger
- Create and put into action Accounting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Make sure that Marriott's worldwide policies and local financial rules are followed
- Check that the general ledgers and balance sheet accounts match up
- Check credit references and look over contracts for group billing
- Make sure stakeholders get accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis
- Put in place and keep strong fraud protection measures
Planning and Reporting on Finances:
- Set financial performance goals that are in line with the company's aims
- Make and keep an eye on budgets, financial strategies, and projections
- Take care of the closure procedures at the end of the month and the end of the term
- Make sure taxes are paid, reported, and accrued correctly
- Send in the appropriate financial reports by the due dates
- Make sure that profit and loss records and analyses are correct
Systems and Controls Inside:
- Set up robust internal measures to keep company assets safe
- Help operational departments with their finances
- Find ways to make processes better and save money
- Use a thorough understanding of accounting rules and practices
- Use accounting software and systems correctly to keep track of data
- Keep track of how to handle returned checks, deposits, and income reports
Team Leadership & Development:
- Hire, train, and help the accounting team members grow.
- Give them performance reviews and put development plans into action.
- Create a team environment that is welcoming, cooperative, and productive
- Assign tasks and keep an eye on how well the team is doing
- Use progressive discipline and make sure the workplace is safe
- Help with supervisory development and succession planning
Qualifications and Competencies:
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a comparable discipline (a four-year study)
- Preferred: a professional accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA, or something similar)
- At least 5 years of experience in accounting
- Experience working in a hotel before it opens or in the hospitality industry is a plus
- Strong knowledge of accounting concepts and financial reporting
- Experience with accounting software and financial systems
- Excellent leadership and team management skills
- Proven ability to establish and execute financial controls
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Great communication and people skills
- Can work well with people from different cultures
- Very honest and follows professional ethics
