Job Description

The IT Officer will act as the primary liaison between the Information Systems (IS) department and end-users in the Uganda office. 

This hands-on role involves providing first-line support for desktops, servers, software applications, and hardware; troubleshooting a wide range of operating difficulties; and supporting online communication systems.

The Officer will also be responsible for preparing and deploying PCs for new users, managing user accounts, and providing basic training Additional duties include assisting in evaluating business problems and implementing software solutions, managing vendor relationships, and mentoring junior staff.

The IT Officer may also be tasked with leading specific IT projects, supervising other IT personnel, and managing resources to ensure the timely and efficient implementation of IT initiatives that support the organization's objectives

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line technical support for PC, server, and application issues to all staff
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software problems efficiently and recommend system modifications to reduce user issues
  • Prepare, configure, and deploy PCs, and provide necessary user education and training
  • Respond to help desk requests and maintain accurate, up-to-date records in the IS tracking system
  • Conduct software installations and configure applications as required by different departments
  • Support and train users on online communication tools and other organizational IT systems
  • Perform hardware diagnostics and coordinate repairs, maintaining strong partnerships with vendors
  • Lead or participate in IT projects, managing timelines and resources effectively
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior IT staff and act as a team lead when required
  • Promote positive customer relationships and ensure a high level of client satisfaction
  • Perform other IT-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications and Experience

EducationA Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
Experience

A minimum of 5 years of experience in IT support, including troubleshooting, installation, and repair in networked environments 

Prior experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) is strongly preferred 

Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access) and experience with data entry/accounting systems is required

  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to translate technical issues into understandable terms for non-technical users
  • Solid knowledge of organizational IT systems, processes, and security protocols
  • Ability to multi-task, set priorities, and manage time effectively
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential
  • Ability to supervise or mentor lower-level IT personnel is desirable
