Makerere University Business School (MUBS) is looking for a very experienced and strategic person to be the School Secretary which is a very important job. This is a top-level senior management job that makes you the institution's chief administrative officer The School Secretary is in charge of the school's administration governance and policy implementation
The post serves as the Secretary to the School Council and its Committees making sure that the University follows the law and that its highest governing body works well
The best candidate will have a lot of experience as an administrator be completely honest know a lot about corporate governance and have led a huge complicated public institution before
Roles & Responsibilities / Main Tasks
Strategic Leadership: Lead the administration and management of the School's operations in a way that is in line with the MUBS Strategic Plan and makes the most of resources
Council Secretariat: Act as the Secretary for the School Council and its Committees This include setting up meetings making sure that statutory duties are met and following up on the implementation of Council resolutions
Custodianship: Be the legal custodian of the School Seal and other official records making sure they are used safely to seal contracts MoUs and other legal agreements
Institutional Reporting: Gather and organize reports from different parts of the institution (academic administrative financial) so that they can be presented to the Council and regulatory authorities
Policy Development: Be in charge of formulating putting into action and reviewing institutional administrative policies and governance frameworks
Stakeholder Liaison: Work with government agencies regulators and other stakeholders to keep good ties with the institution and make sure it follows national laws
Office Management: Oversee direct and evaluate the work of the School Secretary's Office staff promoting a culture of professionalism and high performance
Academic Qualifications
Qualification
An Honors Bachelor's Degree in a discipline like the arts social sciences business administration education law or something similar
A Master's degree in law management or administration from a school that is well-known
Skills and Experience
At least ten (10) years of progressively more responsible administrative and governance experience including at least five (5) years at a Senior Management level (PU5 or higher) in a public tertiary institution or a similar organization
You must be a member of a recognized professional organization such as the Institute of Corporate Governance of Uganda (ICGU)
Must have a valid Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC) from the Uganda Revenue Authority
Must be a Ugandan citizen and younger than 55
Having a PhD or a professional certificate from the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) is a plus
The candidate must show that they are a good leader have great communication and analytical skills and are very honest and responsible
