Job Summary:
The Driver will drive and take care of NARO vehicles, keeping them clean and in good working order. They will provide reliable transportation services to support the organization's research and administrative activities at different locations
About NARO:
The National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) is Uganda's main public organization in charge of coordinating, creating, and sharing agricultural research to help with sustainable development, food security, and better living conditions.
NARO was set up under the National Agricultural Research Act of 2005. It is a center of scientific excellence that promotes new ideas in agriculture all throughout Uganda.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safely and efficiently drive NARO vehicles
- Keep vehicles clean and in good working order
- Check vehicles every day and do basic maintenance
- Make sure staff and research materials are delivered on time
- Follow all traffic laws and safety rules
- Keep accurate records of vehicle use
- Plan efficient routes for research field trips
- Help load and unload research equipment
- Report any problems with vehicles or maintenance needs
- Make sure vehicles are clean and presentable
- Follow the rules for service and maintenance that are set out in the schedule.
- Coordinate transportation needs with the administrative staff.
- Support research teams when they are in the field.
- Keep track of how much gasoline is used.
- Make sure vehicles are safe and parked correctly.
Qualifications and Skills:
- A valid driver's license with no endorsements
- The permit must have at least two types of vehicles.
- Four passes on the Uganda Certificate of Education ("O" Level)
- At least five years of driving experience with automobiles, buses, or vans
- Age limit: 40 years
- Strongly urge women to apply
- Good understanding of Ugandan road networks
- Defensive driving skills and a focus on safety
- Basic knowledge on how to take care of a car
- Being on time and dependable
- Being in good shape and health
- A clean driving record, good communication and people skills,
- Ability to work different hours when needed
- Knowing how to keep vehicles safe
- Skills for planning routes and finding your way
Technical Needs:
- Being able to drive different kinds of vehicles
- Knowing how to fix basic problems with vehicles
- Knowing when to do maintenance on vehicles
- Knowing the rules of the road
- Knowing how to respond to emergencies and give first aid
- Managing fuel efficiency
Requirements for Application:
- Three copies of the NARO Application Form
- A recent passport photo, a detailed resume, and copies of your academic diplomas and letters of recommendation
- Copies of valid driving permits
- The reference number is clearly written on the envelope.
