Job Summary:
The Field Research Technician–Crop Science will give important technical help to agricultural research that takes place in the field. The job includes setting up field trials, gathering correct data, and keeping research plots in good shape to help make better crop varieties and farming methods.
About NARO:
The National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) is the main government agency in Uganda that directs and carries out agricultural research. Our goal is to create and spread better technologies and information that help farmers work more efficiently, add value to their crops, and use resources in a way that is good for the environment and the economy.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Help set up, run, and keep an eye on field experiments and demonstration plots.
- Follow experimental methods to plant, fertilize, and control pests and weeds exactly as they should be done.
- Gather information from the field about how plants develop, how much they produce, and the state of the soil.
- Get soil and plant samples ready for testing in a lab.
- Use and take care of the tools and machines used for field research.
- Make sure that study plots are safe and take care of the irrigation.
- Keep track of and manage experimental data using both digital and paper techniques.
- Help senior researchers on field days and training programs for farmers.
- Keep an eye on casual workers who are doing field work.
- Follow stringent safety and biosecurity rules for all field work.
What you need to know:
Important Requirements:
- A diploma in crop production, agronomy, general agriculture, or a related discipline.
- At least two (2) years of hands-on experience doing agricultural research in the field or a similar environment.
- Proven expertise managing field crops in a hands-on way.
- Able to use basic data collecting instruments and digital devices.
- Able to do physically hard jobs in all kinds of weather.
- Pays close attention to detail and works in a methodical way.

Skills Needed:
- Strong work ethic and dependability.
