Job Summary

The Commissioning Lead (TIL) at McDermott will support the Commissioning Manager in planning and executing safe and efficient pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, and performance testing for the Tilenga Project in Uganda. The role ensures the Central Processing Facility meets production and performance objectives until handover, requiring expertise in OPERCOM and ICAPS systems.

Roles, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate within the project team, contractors, vendors, and client to maintain positive relationships
  • Supervise updates to commissioning deliverables
  • Participate in updating systemization and system boundary mark-ups
  • Participate in project design reviews as assigned
  • Contribute to updating commissioning activity schedules for pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up
  • Supervise the development of operating manuals
  • Oversee updates to pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, and operations procedures for utility and process systems
  • Supervise development of commissioning and start-up spares, subcontracts, consumables, temporary equipment, and vendor services
  • Interface with completions, construction, and client teams for site commissioning inspections and testing
  • Supervise assigned commissioning team, subcontractors, and client personnel to execute activities safely and efficiently
  • Work with the Construction Contractor to inspect and accept completed systems for commissioning
  • Participate in completion walkdowns, punch-list development, and clearing of punch-list items
  • Contribute to developing training programs for employees and client personnel
  • Implement procedures to ensure facility and personnel safety
  • Interface with local agencies to facilitate approvals and ensure smooth commissioning and operation
  • Provide input to the “lessons learned” database
  • Mentor younger members of the site commissioning team

Qualifications, Education, and Competencies

  • Engineering degree (or equivalent) in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience on EPC projects in a supervisory or higher role within the commissioning group
  • Pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up experience on at least 3 major EPC projects in the oil and gas industry
  • Broad technical knowledge of construction and completion activities
  • Ability to communicate technical solutions and concepts to engineers and non-engineers
  • Strong English communication skills (oral and written); second language is a plus
  • Excellent computer skills, with proficiency in MS Office suite as a minimum
  • Strong presentation skills for meetings with project management and clients
  • Effective communication skills to build confident relationships with discipline managers, engineers, and non-engineers
  • Excellent organizational skills and adaptability to various discipline needs
  • Capability to lead a commissioning project team and deputize for the Commissioning Manager
