Job Summary
The Senior Field Engineer (Principal Tech Services Specialist) at McDermott will address complex business and technical challenges in the Tech Services discipline within the Onshore Construction function. The role involves providing expert support, managing site activities, and ensuring project efficiency with minimal supervision.
Roles, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Support the Construction Manager with site-related activities as needed
- Assist the General Superintendent with engineering information
- Keep the Construction Manager and General Superintendent updated on engineering and construction changes
- Assist in developing Site Change Orders
- Collaborate with the Completions Manager to plan discipline activities
- Liaise with the Site QA/QC Manager for final inspections and punch lists
- Oversee the Site Document Management Department to ensure compliance with correspondence and filing systems
- Support planning for construction tools, scaffolding, workstations, and other resources
- Plan for the procurement, fabrication, and installation of required materials
- Manage communication between Engineering and Construction using a Request for Information (RFI) system
- Complete and integrate RFIs into turnover systems for client resolution
- Record daily progress in WorkFace Planning software using input from Foremen and General Foremen
- Conduct weekly meetings with Superintendents to plan work for the next three weeks
- Develop weekly work plans at the IWP level with General Foremen/Superintendents and track in WorkFace Planning
- Request materials via WRFIs to material management and track delivery
- Document and share lessons learned from IWPs
Qualifications, Education, and Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
- 7 to 10 years of experience in construction
- Intermediate knowledge of construction processes, progress tracking, material management, document control, and time management
- Ability to drive and support changes in processes and project culture
- Advanced understanding of planning and sequencing construction activities
- Confident team member able to communicate across various organizational levels
- Strong attention to detail with a proven track record in meeting deadlines, problem-solving, and troubleshooting
- Respected for integrity, strong work ethic, and professionalism
- Energetic with a positive, can-do attitude and results-oriented mindset
- Advanced MS Office skills, particularly in Access and Excel
