Job Summary
The Cost Controls Specialist uses their theoretical knowledge of cost management to do cost analysis, come up with feasible solutions utilizing conventional methods, and think critically, all with little supervision and coaching.
The Cost Controls Specialist knows how the firm works and what makes it successful.
They use their technical knowledge, judgment, and best practices in the industry to address problems.
Duties
- Help create and carry out the project controls execution plan
- Help with setting up the project controls system and meeting the project's start-up needs
- Help put the project's OBS, WBS, and CBS into place in the necessary financial and progress systems.
- Know and follow McDermott's rules for costs and progress.
- Show that you grasp the fundamentals of Earned Value Management.
- Basic knowledge of the many types of EPC contracts, such as LS, Cost Plus, Reimbursable, Unit Rate, and so on.
- Knowing the terms used in contracts and construction
- Help with Estimate Conforming
- Know how the project chart of accounts relates to the estimate and the scope of the contract.
- Help make and get ready the forecast system and cost reports
- Help with billing and, if necessary, help with project accounting by reconciling costs to billings.
- Know how project trends relate to the forecast (PFs, trends, commitments, labor mix, etc.).
- Help with change management, such as making expense estimates to help with change verification.
- Help set up and keep the progress measuring system running
- People who do quantity surveying will need to help with the effort to check Issued For Construction (IFC) quantity take-offs and reported installed quantities.
- There would need to be a way to fix any differences in the stated amounts.
- Make sure that IFC quantity take-offs are linked to turnover systems.
- Help put the worldwide norms of credit into action and keep the project's progress measurement system up to date.
- Ability to make spreadsheet analytic tools for management to look over progress
- Reporting: Give accurate and timely data on costs and progress.
- A basic understanding of scheduling software and how it works, as well as how it affects costs and progress
- Help gather data for the Closeout Report
- Help junior project controls staff grow and develop professionally
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in business, finance, engineering, construction management, or a related discipline
- 2 to 5 years of relevant experience working for an EPC
- Must know how earned value systems work
- Finding solutions
- A good attitude and a lot of coordination skills
- Showed that they could prioritize many projects and manage their work to meet deadlines.
- Showed that they could work well with others on a team that did more than one thing
- Can handle change and perform well under pressure
- You don't have to know JDE Edwards, although it would be helpful if you did.
- Knowledge of standard business tools, such Microsoft Office programs
