During the commissioning and start-up phase of the Tilenga Project in Uganda, the Maintenance Specialist (MEI) will be in charge of performing mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation (MEI) maintenance work. This job reports to the Preservation and Maintenance Lead. The Maintenance Specialist provides first-line leadership to the team and ensures that maintenance tasks are done safely, efficiently, and on time, following the Commissioning Execution Plan and the maintenance manuals provided by the vendor.

Collaboration & Leadership | Work together with the project team and client representatives to ensure system readiness and operational excellence. |
Maintenance & Commissioning | Oversee and carry out maintenance, commissioning, and start-up tasks for MEI systems, including aligning rotating equipment, checking electrical loops for routine maintenance, and calibrating instruments. Perform troubleshooting and corrective maintenance on rotating/static equipment, electrical panels, and instrumented systems. |
Preventive Maintenance & Documentation | Help develop preventive maintenance programs and preservation plans. Participate in walkdowns, punch listing, cleaning, and reinstatement of MEI systems. Ensure all maintenance activities are accurately documented in the Systems Completion Database (ICAPS). |
Inventory & Coordination | Keep track of spare parts and work with Material Management to ensure timely purchasing and delivery. Collaborate with operations, engineering, and commissioning teams to align maintenance schedules with project milestones. |
Technical Input & Mentorship | Provide technical advice on choosing spare parts, lubricants, and consumables for commissioning and start-up. Teach and guide junior technicians and national workers on maintenance procedures and safety practices. |
Safety & Reporting | Ensure preparation and opening of Permits to Work (PTWs) and conduct job safety analyses where required. Provide detailed reports on scope progress, concerns, resource requirements, and daily task planning. |
Requirement | Description |
---|---|
Education | A technical diploma or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, or Instrumentation Engineering or a related technological discipline. |
Experience | At least 8 years of experience working as a maintenance worker on EPC projects in the Oil & Gas industry (as either a contractor or operator). Proven experience with rotating machinery (pumps, compressors, turbines), electrical systems (HV/MV/LV, VFDs, MCCs), and instrumentation systems (DCS/PLC, ESD, F&G, analyzers, HIPS, control valves, transmitters). |
Technical Skills | Familiarity with ICAPS is a plus. Demonstrated technical knowledge of maintenance and commissioning activities. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); knowledge of Primavera and AutoCAD is an advantage. |
Soft Skills | Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work in a multicultural environment. Fluent in English; other language skills are a plus. Strong dedication to safety, quality, and continuous improvement. |
