Role Overview

Job Title: Medical Officer at C-Care Uganda

Location: Mbarara, Uganda

Summary of the Job: The Medical Officer will provide in-house clinical care in the units, wards, or clinics they are assigned to, making sure that medical services are quick, effective, and of high quality.

Mbarara-Based Role: Full-time position delivering comprehensive patient care in a dynamic hospital environment.

Responsibilities, Roles, and Duties

Clinical Diagnosis & Treatment
  • Follow IHK protocols to make accurate diagnoses and give the right therapy based on a full history, a physical exam, and any necessary tests (such blood tests or imaging).
  • Follow up on all patient cases to make sure that tests, consultations, and treatments are done correctly.
  • Work with specialists to make sure that referred or co-managed patients are taken care of properly.
Patient Flow & Coverage
  • As needed, provide OPD coverage to make sure that all patients are seen quickly and that patient card boxes are checked often to eliminate delays.
  • As needed, provide ward coverage, making sure that all aspects of patient care are covered and that patient files are kept up to date with clear, thorough records.
  • During your scheduled duty times, make sure to do regular and comprehensive ward rounds.
  • Before you leave work, make sure you write up complete reports and give the next Medical Officer a proper handover.
Professional Development & Training
  • To stay up to speed with the latest medical practices, go to CMEs, give presentations, and read on a regular basis. (Note: CMEs are held every Thursday at 8:00 a.m. in the Boardroom, and there are also monthly online sessions.)
  • Help and train less experienced medical workers in things like triage and how to handle patients.
Operational & Administrative Duties
  • Keep up to date on all the hospital's or health center's services, systems, and fees or charges.
  • Know how to use and take care of medical equipment.
  • When it's required, talk to outside medical service providers about patient information.
  • Know the rules about charges and health plans, fill out insurance claim papers correctly, and make sure that the services given are in line with what the patient is entitled to.
  • Look at the systems that are already in place and offer ways to make them better if they need to be.
  • Check ambulance cases as needed to make sure that patients in transit always get full and ongoing care.

Requirements

  • A medical degree from an accredited school, a valid Annual Practicing License, and a Registration Certificate.
  • Registration with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners' Council or being able to register with them.
  • At least one year of professional experience after the internship.

Continuous Learning: Mandatory attendance at weekly CMEs (Thursdays, 8:00 AM) and monthly online sessions.
